Strong aroma of roasted and caramel malts, oatmeal, and molasses. Taste is disapointing, however. Extremely light malt flavor with very little hoppiness. No bitterness and thin palate. winegarner (220), san diego, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 23, 2006 Poured a dark red to black with a mild head that collapsed to a sustained thin covering. Aromas are of coffee and molasses. The taste is very sweet with again coffee and molasses with a hint of chocolate. No discernable hop flavor or aroma is present with a very small amount of bitterness trying to catch up with the residual sugars. dwyerpg (2537), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 31, 2006 Here’s a dark beer that my girlfriend actually liked more than me. Pretty devoid of any distinction, even for a dunkel, it still had the required sweetness. The chocolate flavoring was nice, but is noticeably light in any alcohol effect - too watery. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 26, 2006 In the 0.5L bottle at the Huber Haus Wildcat Mug Club tasting. A dark brown beer with a weak nearly invisible head. The aroma is like horhound candy and gingerbread cookies. Flavor is candy sweet and yet a little bit astringent. The thin body, strong sweetness and low alcohol make me wonder if this lager undergoes an incomplete fermentation. Big points for the aroma, but a little too sweet. dp (512), uniontown, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 25, 2005 Updated: Feb 28, 2008This bottled brew poured a small sized head with a foamy bottom and a frothy top of fine to medium sized mostly diminishing light brown colored bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body contained average carbonation, was transparent and dark ruby red brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of caramel dark malt mild . Its mouth feel is initially slightly tingly with a lingering slightly tingly palate and a aftertaste. Its flavor contained minor caramel dark beer brown malts notes and was a tad thin on flavor but good none-the-less. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA

In the aroma I can detect chocolate, raisins, perfume and a little bit of a sour aroma as well. Smooth mouthfeel. Some cholate and roasted malts are present right up front. A little bit of an artificial sweetness is predominant. Thin and watery, but overall a drinkable brew. Oakes (8093), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 8, 2005 Chestnut brown colour with a fairly thick (artificially so, if I may say) light brown head. Mild chocolate/toffee aroma with a slight acidic hint. Sweet sugary malts not unlike those found in South American dunkels clash with a background of somewhat astringent graininess. Light and simple is fine, but this lacks the clarity and sense of purpose that needs to go into a light dark beer in order to make it work.
