Very pleasant, if simple beer, which was what I had expected or hoped. One with enough roast and body to have something there, but light enough that were I to be in the country of production where presumably it would be both fresh and cheap, I could imagine leisurely drinking a few. But not going out of my way for more. RAYBOY01 (1864), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Brown ale, deep mahogany pour, no head. Mainly weak caramel malt flavor, too sweet and very cloying. Not remotely refreshing. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Pours a rich mahogany with a frothy beige head. The aroma was malty sweet, caramel, a modicum of hops, some nutiness. Very thin and watery. The flavor was slightly sweet but rather insipid. Just didn’t impress. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 22, 2005 Bottle. Pours a medium brown with a fizzy head that dissipates quickly to nothing. Aroma is light chocolate, some sweetness like cherries, and some malty roastiness. Palate has an odd texture. SOmewhat flat, little bit of water, then some fizziness, very interesting. Taste is light chocolate and has a semi flat cola feel and taste to it. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | May 1, 2005 12oz. bottle. Nutty, lightly sweet chocolate aroma with hints of molasses and toasty malt. Clear, dark, red-brown color with a slight, fine head. Flavor is a bit strange with a blend of dark, sugary, toffeeish malt sweetness, slightly sour fruitiness, moderate bitterness, dark bread and a lightly acidic, cocoa and coffee finish. Some earthy notes throughout, combined with something like tree bark. Palate is thin and a touch overly effervescent. Seemingly lacking integration. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 17, 2005 Very attractive dark chestnut brown. Small short-lived tan head that fades to a small ring of foam. Aromas of malt, french roast coffee beans, molasses, slight notes of cider, balsamic vinegar and sherry. Flavor is slightly sweet with malt, caramel, toffee and espresso prevalent, light background of hoppiness and herbs. Thin finish, but malt lingers. Low abv, this dark beer shares little with other dark lagers, more like an old recipe porter.
