Smells matly and sweet with a hint of butterscotch. Apperence isn’t that cool with practically no head and thebody is a dark translucent brown--perhaps some burgandy. At first taste i like this beer but i think that was because i needed a beer. It is malty without a lot of complexity. It has the consistancy of water with not too much body. Overall I am going to have to agree with cornfeild that it is over priced.

Poured dark, but not thick. Very fleeting thin, light colored head. Smelled like coffee and some kind of fruit. Earlier reviewer named prune, and I think that’s close. This beer doesn’t have a lot of pop to it, but the palate is interesting. I tasted wood, coffee, and chocolate, with a hint of the prune. I enjoyed this beer as something different.

This is a decent dark beer of the czech variety, but I have a feeling the import version is probably a watered down version of the real thing. Definitely a complex chocolate malty taste, and a really awesome translucent red color. Its easy drinking, but kind of weak at 4% and doesn’t do much more than taste good. Worth the time if you want to try something a little different though.

Bottle: Aroma contains a lot of nuttiness and a decent chocolate presence. Pours a dark brown with red hilights when held to the light. Decent off-white head that lasts a minute or so. Lots of nuttiness in the flavor from start to finish. Gets a little sweet in the finish with some chocolate. Leaves a moderate nutty aftertaste. A little thin. Very smooth drinking. Not great, but I’m pleasantly suprised.

This poured out looking like a flat Dr. Pepper, dark brown with an off-white halo of fizz on top. It smelled like old butterscotch. Fortunately, it didn’t taste like that. It had just a hint of malty sweetness in a basically watery glass of dribble. Do yourself a favor and drink water instead. It costs less and doesn’t leave your mustache sticky.

bottled. czech dark beers used to be my favourite beer style when i was 18 but have been a struggle to appreciate lately, a lot of them seeming just too sweet and thin. thankfully this had some body and the toffee sweetness was balanced by some light dryness

Pours deep beautiful red-brown with a thin tan head that quickly diminishes. No visible carbonation. Faintly soapy, smoky, coffee nose. The flavor is prune, coffee, smoky malt with no hops at all. Very sweet. No alcohol comes through in the taste. Oily and creamy mouthfeel. Aftertaste has that mild soap flavor again, not particularly unpleasant. Ok beer but somehow seems overstewed, and there is certainly ester present, not a good Dunkel quality. I like the burnt and toasted flavors though, but it seems a little thin. This would be better fresh.

aroma was malty w/ hints of bitterness.. the pour was a dark hugh w/ hints of red and had a small tan head. The palate was thin but creamy and contained some very week carbonation. I thought the flaovr was a little bland yet reminded me of hints of hops.. overall it was just not a very good beer
