MrManning (1448), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 10, 2008 Bottle- Thanks David!- Pours a deeper amber/copper with a thin white foamed cap. The aroma is slightly roasty/toasty with candy and subtle floral hops. Slightly roasted malt flavour, sweet caramel, bready with moderate hops bitterness finishing off. Tingly and assertive finish. Not half bad. tomthompson89 (1148), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2007 decent head good caremel sweetness decent english style hops body is a bit thin Copper color DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 27, 2007 18-Mar-07 (341 ml bottle: Obtained 17-Jul-06 in trade with HogTownHarry, thanks Harry!) The malts of this English pale ale are grainy and somewhat toasty with mild toffee and just a hint of caramel sweetness. English hops offers little in the way of bitterness but does provide a bit of traditional hop flavor to balance. Toast and toffee in the nose, but there is no hops aroma. Light-medium in body, soft and round on the palate with a smooth, uneventful finish. Standard amber color and fairly clear, just a hint of haze when looking through the beer. Tiny, sparcely spaced carbonation bubbles rise slowly though the beer to reach the off-white head. Retention and lacing are average, the head eventually fading to a thin ring. Nothing special here, but I did enjoy the toasty flavor of the malt. robinvboyer (1054), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jul 6, 2007 THere is a decent hop aroma and flavour in this beer. its not overpowering, but its there. This seems to lend itself more to the masses. I dont get the feeling they are aiming for a true Pale Ale, they are just making it hoppy enough so it doesnt taste macro. chainman (96), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 20, 2007 Bottle, 341ml Not my frist KLB/Amsterdam experience, and since I’m a fan of their beers, I was expecting something good. Pours a pretty copper-red, but I had to fire straight down to generate much head, and it disapeared soon after. Some nice lacing. Aroma is lots of hops...the taste is great! Crisp, hoppy, nice malt balance. Soft mouthfeel, not as harsh as some pales. Alcohol is hidden well. Nice aftertaste, doesn’t linger on the tongue, but those hops sure stick around. More subdued than some other Toronto pales (Mill St. Tankhouse, though good, is almost overbearing next to this). There’s a KLB "taste" that I also associate with the Raspberry Wheat (must be the yeast), and it works well...goes down almost too easy. A quality, well-made ale that I’ll definitely pick up again. I’ve yet to be disappointed by KLB/Amsterdam. Good work, guys!
