Cletus (3614), Connecticut, USA Dec 27, 2008 Bottle courtesy of matt7215. Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of light citrus, spice, caramel. Tastes citrussy and peppery with a tea like finish. matt7215 (654), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2008 341 ml bottle from The Beer Store. the bottles and packaging dont have a date on them but the case was dusty so im guessing that this has been "cellared" for me by The Beer Store.
pours deep orangeish/brown with a mid tan head. slightly hazed body with mid level carbonation.
the aroma is of faded once ample hops and a firm malt backbone. its actually almost has a barley wine aroma to it so its held up better then i would have expected.
the flavours are similar to the aroma. faded hops with lingering bitterness. firm caramel malts. the finish had a slight oxygenated plastic/carboard aspect but it wasnt all that noticable.
pretty good overall and id love to try it fresh. JesseM (442), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Nov 17, 2008 341mL bottle courtesy of matt7215 (thanks Matt). Pours a very off looking pale copper, tons of haze that shouldn’t be there, and actually kind of resembles a wheat beer. Not infected, just another casualty of Ontario’s wonderful Beer Store’s mentality towards craft beer of letting it ’age’ for as long as it takes before someone buys it. Anyways, smells like a weird sour mix of malts, Fuggles hops, and plastic. Smells like it’d smell great when fresh. Taste is like a barley wine gone wrong, though still somehow tasty. The malt backbone is actually still holding its own, and the hops add some okay balance to the mix. Again, something that would be great fresh, but had been destroyed by the f***ing Beer Store. Sammy (3287), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 17, 2008 Cask at Volo CaskFest 2008. Some hop aroma and grapefruit taste. Light mouthfeel. Minimum crown head on grapefruit colour. Not too bitter, significant caramel.
MrManning (1469), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 10, 2008 Bottle- Thanks David!- Pours a deeper amber/copper with a thin white foamed cap. The aroma is slightly roasty/toasty with candy and subtle floral hops. Slightly roasted malt flavour, sweet caramel, bready with moderate hops bitterness finishing off. Tingly and assertive finish. Not half bad.
