Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, cookie), moderately yeasty (cheese, sweat), with notes of spackle/paint and hair spray.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
Truly horrific aroma...some sweet malt, yes, but the rest is positively scary. Stinky cheese and various stomach-clenching chemical odors. I really didn’t want to put any in my mouth, but oddly it didn’t leave a disturbing aftertaste (still, not much to balance the sweetness, so it doesn’t really save it). Not like any Imperial Stout I’ve had either (aside from the aroma). So I dunno...maybe just a terrible yeast strain and some higher alcohols at fault? First experience with this brewery and sadly a very very poor one. Total drain pour.
aracauna (2195), Georgia, USA Jun 28, 2008 This is not the Imperial Stout that I’ve been disappointed with, especially one with Dutch on the label, although I think the other one I’m thinking of was Belgian. Pours the color of cola (always a bad sign for an Imperial Stout). Very porter like with some chocolate and dried dates, but far from satisfying. CaptainCougar (4596), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 20, 2008 Pours a transparent dark mahogany with ruby hues and a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet doughy caramel malts and some light fruity esters with nice Belgian yeasty notes. Body starts fairly full and dark caramely malty sweet with some sticky fruity character and a doughy finish. More of a Belgian dubbel than imperial stout, but I try not to rate according to style. railcat1 (468), Hammond, Indiana, USA Jun 10, 2008 This was a very strange tasteing IPS with a brown pour and a cherry/ berry flavor not like any other stout i have ever had it did have a little kick to it but just was a poor version of the style .CHEERS! SSSteve (1428), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 1, 2008 a dark murky brown beer under a small tan head. sweet aroma of chocolate, red wine, perfume, cherry cough medicine. flavors chocolate and unfortunately the cherry cough medicine sourness. a strange bubblegum aftertaste. finish is quite boozy and dry. watery texture. not blending well. mtoast (279), City of Rust, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 Holy overpriced, decent enough beer, no need for the pricetag though. Strange green apple flavor with some black pepper spiciness in the finish, almost like a Saison yeast was used
