rpattinson (82), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 6, 2006 Bottled: Biscuit, fruit, pear, nuts, pepper, coriander, cream and malt aromas; sweet/bitterish taste with malt, caramel, nuts, fruit and spice aromas; bitter finish with biscuit, pepper, spice and honey aromas.
The name is misleading - it’s at the very pale end of the amber scale. It has a subtle character that is magnificent in the bottle, but totally ruined when served on draught with too much top pressure. It’s the only Bamberg beer I’ve had where the two versions differed so greatly in quality.
The bottled version is an assembly of beautifully understated malt flavours, though there is still a very respectable hop presence for what is intended as a malt-oriented beer. I’ve no idea what style this is. It’s similar in colour and strength to the Fässla lagerber, though the taste profile is completely different. One thing it definitely ISN´T is a Dunkel. Extremely nice looking and tasting. diabel (1213), Aarschot, Belgium Sep 25, 2006 Bottle Clear, amber body. Refined aroma of fine malts, citrus, ... Moderately sweet, lightly bitter initial flavour. Moderately bitter finish. Quite malty. Nicely balance between the hops and the malts. Very lovely! TheGrandMaster (1617), Auckland, New Zealand Oct 2, 2006 Updated: Oct 3, 2006Draught at the brewery, a clear amber with a large pillowy white head (that didn’t last). A strawberry-like malty aroma. Nice and creamy with caramal in the mouth and a good dry finish. Another good beer from Klosterbrau. joss (3294), Garching b. Bitter and toasted nose.
Cloudy rust color, low head which clings to glass.
Bitterhop, burned malt, cookies, honey and a bit cobwebbed - it tastes as old as the braunbier style :-)
Medium body, carbonation tingles the back of the mouth. Soft mouthfeel and exit.
