JorisPPattyn (4691), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 8, 2008 Mossy shine in amber-yellow beer, well-carbonated to irregular, off-white head. Fresh smelling, even greenmalt, caramel, alcohol, greenery. Sharp malt taste, lots of caramel, some faint fruity esters (strawberry?). Even a bit fatty, oily MF, despite the carbonation, very slick, slightly burning MF. Probably more defendable version than the first. Sample very young, might better with a bit more lagering.
DruncanVeasey (1916), No. 46, Leicestershire, England Nov 20, 2008 Gushing marmalade pour darkening with sediment. Collapsing creamy white foam, milky soft m/f. Nose humming juicily with jammy marmalade citrus (Goldings, Saaz?), zesty orange rind notes, honey, gooseberry, coriander. A definite sniffer. Mellow tangy Belgian sessions disappearing alarmingly rapidly with spice and soft orange citrus. Gentle pine and hop bitterness, all wrapped up in pale malt vanilla and honey touches, soapy alkaline softness, gnaw of peanut. Could make a house beer of this. Nothing complicated, but hugely drinkable and swimming with silky...erm, Belgiumness. BALANCE and silk. No wonder the locals were drinking it over the other 800+ brews on offer at De Bierloods. Excellent.
