The color is beautiful dark red mahogany and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of sour yeast, barnyard, malt and fruit. The flavor is slightly sweet, sour, yeasty with notes of roasted malt and light fruit.

Bottle 33cl.
Clear medium brown color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, dark berry notes, moderate yeasty, brett. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and roasted, caramel, brett bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Clearly a infected beer - but somehow it manage to come out quite succesful ! [20091003]

German Ulfborg tasting 09. Bottle. Pours cloudy brown with a creamy white head and lacings. Dust, tart, brett, caramel. Medium bodied. Infected in a positive direction.

Dark red brown with a lively off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, chocolate and dried fruits, with strong delicious brett. Dry and slightly tart flavour with strong brett and a little chocolate. Based on the other ratings it’s not infected on purpose, but the result is quite nice.

Bottle 30 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear orangey brown with a beige head. Very lively - a slow gusher. Leathery Brett aroma. Medium body, notes of black currant and dried fruit. Astringent and leathery Brett accents. Clearly another infected Koelschip beer - but somehow they manage to come out quite succesful with their infections! 031009

2008 Vintage Huge, undulating brown-cream head over fully opaque dark redbrown beer. Sourish-vinous nose, as Oud Bruin, lactic acid, ripe red fruit. Jumble of flavours: lactic acid, sharp metallic bitterness, woodstripper, fruity esters and vinous character. Medium bodied, very discreet alcoholburn; retronasal not an explosion, but a gradual full deployment of all the inherent flavours. Let’s be candid. My first idea was: "infected", immediately followed by "but they had full mazzel with it ". Gradually, I became convinced they had attempted ànd succeeded a classical Flemish Oud Bruin. If only. If only it weren’t for that never-away metallic bitterness, as well as the caption on the label, claiming to be brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot . Flämisches Alt for crying out loud???

Brown body. Sweet sugary nose. But really sour taste. Lots of molasses. Yeasty. Some caramel. Definitely not my thing.

Bottle@Home. Raisin and brown sugar aroma. Dark brown color, beige head, fair lace. Sweet, raisin, light bitter, some herbs, licorice, sticky mouthfeel. Wat a surprise to find something drinkable from Koelschip.
