| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2009 2008 Vintage Huge, undulating brown-cream head over fully opaque dark redbrown beer. Sourish-vinous nose, as Oud Bruin, lactic acid, ripe red fruit. Jumble of flavours: lactic acid, sharp metallic bitterness, woodstripper, fruity esters and vinous character. Medium bodied, very discreet alcoholburn; retronasal not an explosion, but a gradual full deployment of all the inherent flavours. Let’s be candid. My first idea was: "infected", immediately followed by "but they had full mazzel with it ". Gradually, I became convinced they had attempted ànd succeeded a classical Flemish Oud Bruin. If only. If only it weren’t for that never-away metallic bitterness, as well as the caption on the label, claiming to be brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot . Flämisches Alt for crying out loud??? altonbrownd (1913), Amsterdam, Netherlands
