A deed dark brown pour with huge frothy head and lace.More caramel on the flavor with a very nice smooth bitter finish. Light hints of abv and hint of chocolate but that is all a very interesting beer to say the least. JaBier (1261), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2008 12oz bottle at the Crosswoods Winking Lizard. Pours pitch black with a huge tan head. Super malty aroma, but there is some roast character there. Malty sweet flavor with a nice roasty coffee finish. Expensive, but worth it. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2008 Black, firm tanned head. Nicely smooth aroma has little coffee, dried fruits, smoke, cocoa, molasses and loads of leather. Similar flavor with quite tangy hoppiness in the finish, not all that pleasant. Medium to full bodied, round filling mouthfeel. I remember this one being better on tap. A good nightcap, though far from the top. elihapa (1067), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Updated: May 16, 2009Bought for $3.99. Viscous, dark brown pour with heavy cream-colored lacing. Nose of roasted malt, baker’s chocolate, sweet raisin, and earthiness. Palate is smooth, though thin when swishing the beer around in mouth. I tasted sweet malt and dark chocolate notes to start, then transitioning to a bitter, ashy profile by the finish. There was also something unusual going on here. Through the mid-palate, I kept tasting something resembling coca-cola, with perhaps a touch of straw and chalkiness. Overall, I initially enjoyed the palate, though as I started to realize its "thinness" it became bothersome. I am impressed by this baltic porter, something does seem a touch strange. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 1, 2008 Blackish color with a strong roasty-sweet aroma. Flavor is roasty, smooth, but lacks a real ’’bite’’ to finish things off. Good, but I’ve never been super-impressed with this one. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2008 Deep black coloured body with a nice sized large dense brown head - very nice. Aroma of metal, blood, roasted malt, caramel and nuts. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with nuts and raisin flavour really strong. Caramel and coffee come through as well. Aftertaste shows bitter characteristics with coffee and chocolate too. Overall, a good beer - not my favourite baltic, but definitely good to try! I sampled this super old (like 5 year old) bottle that was stored in my fridge on 29 October 2008. lithy (1800), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Pitch black body with a very thick milk chocolate head and nice concentric rings of lacing. Smoky roasty malt with a slight alcohol tinge. The body is light but smooth, slight dark roasted malt, waves of earthy coffee and a finish of sweet chocolate. Fantastic smooth finish would have actually suspected this was a lager not an ale.
