kimcgolf (700), Dacula, Georgia, USA Aug 15, 2006 Actually had this as a Sinebrychoff Porter IV, bottled in 1997. Poured to a jet black, with medium tan head and very good lacing. Initial aroma of malty toffee, with hints of chocolate. As beer warmed, alcohol also made its presence known in the aroma. This beer is fdefinitely better as it warms at mid-glass. Finish at first is metallic, but later on is smooth and rich. I hope I can find another of this kind and age.
hirigalzkar (154), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 6, 2009 Bottle. Black. Small beige head. Smells choclate. Tastes chocolate and port with small tartness in the aftertaste. I think this beer has a little too much carbonation. SynergyXJ (445), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bottle, #431. Black pour with medium head. Roasty malt aroma and flavor with ah bit of chocolate and high alcohol flavor. Good brew overall. decaturstevo (1398), decatur, Tennessee, USA Dec 30, 2008 Caramelly notes with very light chocolate and abv on the nose. A deed dark brown pour with huge frothy head and lace.More caramel on the flavor with a very nice smooth bitter finish. Light hints of abv and hint of chocolate but that is all a very interesting beer to say the least. JaBier (240), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 21, 2008 12oz bottle at the Crosswoods Winking Lizard. Pours pitch black with a huge tan head. Super malty aroma, but there is some roast character there. Malty sweet flavor with a nice roasty coffee finish. Expensive, but worth it. austone (629), Turku; Pori, Finland Dec 20, 2008 Black, firm tanned head. Nicely smooth aroma has little coffee, dried fruits, smoke, cocoa, molasses and loads of leather. Similar flavor with quite tangy hoppiness in the finish, not all that pleasant. Medium to full bodied, round filling mouthfeel. I remember this one being better on tap. A good nightcap, though far from the top.
