KingGambrinus (105), Santiago, Chile Dec 11, 2008 -Sampled at Malloco Oktoberfest 2008.- Brown colour with a big and creamy white head. Strong hoppy aroma with notes of nuts and fruits. Flavor is mostly hoppy, some slight fruit notes and medium bitterness. Dense texture and medium body. Interesting attempt to brew a style that is rare in Chile. Lilith (242), Santiago, Chile Apr 7, 2008 Sampled at Malloco’s Oktoberfest
Appearance is murky with a reddish brown body. Huge creamy, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, hoppy, of flowers, herbs and fruits. Flavor is flowery, medium finish and dry. almosi (279), Vińa del Mar, Chile Dec 24, 2007 Good fruit-bearing, sweet aroma. Color brilliant amber, almost color charges, with great foam. The first sip is acid, with many fruit, but the end is astringent. i was waiting more. There is bad bitterness ultimately. davidpl (416), Santiago, Chile Nov 17, 2007 Appearance: dark and cloudy coppers color. Great head, ivory color, not much dense, some rocky and persistent.
Aroma: toasty, candy, toffee, vanilla and very yeasty. Reminiscence of banana, ripe pears and apple. Some citric smells (maybe for infection problems).
Flavor: sweet start from caramels and toasty malts. Taste tones like smells reminiscences; toffee, some nuty and vanilla. Nice yeasty that add a tone similar to fresh and crunchy bread. Fruitiness like banana, peaches, peels of red apple and citric fruits. Unfortunately present infection problems. Slight hoppy, finish, some herbal.
Palate: medium body and carbonation.
Innovative beer style in Chile and a micro-brewer with potential. Nice but without the fruitiness, nutty and complexity of a real england bitter. Infection problems (excessive sourness) that hidden the flavors.
Panzerfaust (383), Santiago, Chile Nov 2, 2007 Sampled at Malloco’s Oktoberfest
Pours a dark amber, almost brown color. Head is huge, frothy and off-white. It has good retention and leaves a thick film.
Aroma is hoppy/flowery with notes of grass, herbs, lemon, grapefruit, apples and flowers. The malt is vaguely present but it’s there.
Flavor is bitter with lots of english hops. There are notes of lime, grapefruit and most of all grass. Unusual, the guys from Kolbach take risks and that’s fine for me.
Medium to big body, dense smooth mouthfeel, high carbonation. The alcohol is well-hidden. The finish is astringent and leaves a herbal aftertaste.
