Bottle, April 2008 tasting (thanks Rene). Very dark colour. A tasty oatmeal stout with lots of roasts malt, chocolate and liquorice. Not too much residual sweetness. Smooth but firm mouthfeel. Good. For comparison, here are my notes of a version of this that I scored in 2005 and was presumably made by one of the Bryglaug team but disallowed as it was not a commercial operation at the time - [500ml bottle, bought from Kolding Vinhandel, sampled during RBESG, August 2005. Roasted, smoky malt aroma. Light chocolate, with more burnt malt on the palate. Sharp edge on the finish. Not too full bodied, but a decent effort.] Don’t know how much the recipe has changed since the prototype but my scores were the same.

500. Thanks, Thewolf and After4ever! Pours opaque blackish brown with a lacy tan head. Chocolate and oatmeal in the aroma and taste. A little bit of sourness in the finish.

Bottle shared by after4ever. Soft roasted malts and sweetness in the aroma. It is pretty pleasant. Dark brown almost black pour with no head. The flavor is roasty with some yeasty fruitiness, dry roasted malts, and some softer sweetness. Smooth bodied beer.

Bottled (thanks Timo A). Very dark brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is coffee, some roasted malts, bread and rather chocolateish. Flavour is quite much the same. Coffee and chocolate in the aftertaste.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet matly with primary notes of chocolate, but also light notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of chocolate, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottled (tapped 22.02.2008). Almost pitch black color, espresso head. Tobacco, color malts, some licorice in the nose. Roasted, coffeish flavor - some tobacco. Roasted aftertaste. As many times in oatmeal stouts, velvety enjoyable palate, just a bit too much color malts or something which gives burned taste.

Slightly rough, inky aroma: cocoa powder, bitter chocolate, and some basic bitterness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy bitter chocolate, dried fruits, and cocoa; again, inky and a touch medicinal, following the aroma. Medium finish: cocoa, bitter chocolate; decently dry and toasty.
