The flavour is nicely vinous with a distinct vanilla note. The bitterness is a bit rough, like very hard roasted malts. I would have preferred some more sweetness. Much too hard roasted, and too dry. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Handbottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is quite powerful with notes of vanilla, wood, soy sauce, roasted malt, oatmeal, and a bit of whiskey. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of whiskey and roasted malt as well as medium notes of alcohol, soy sauce, roasted malt, wood, and oatmeal, as well as light notes of vanilla, leading to a dry finish, where the alcohol makes it presence known on the palate, but at the same time the mouthfeel is a bit weak - maybe due to a low level of residual sugar. Huge thanks to yespr for this. Maria (6190), Thisted, Denmark
