tomciccateri (467), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Apr 21, 2008 .5L clear brown bottle dated 24/12/07, labeled "classic English". Medium body, full mouthfeel, slightly sweet flavor balance, chocolaty flavor with molasses character. omhper (11030), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 21, 2007 Bottled. Clear ruby/brown, brief beige head. Aniseed dominates the nose. Medium sweet with salty grainy malt and licorice. Clearly not a classic English porter as the name would indicate, instead an offspring from the Ukrainian porter tradition - ie. dark brown, sweetish licorice tasting beers. That’s a good thing - this really is a good beer in it’s own right. beastiefan2k (1249), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Oct 11, 2007 Classic English Porter is the name, false advertising I say. Pours with a small head that turns into a surface covering lacing. Dark brown body that is lighter on the edges. When viewed in direct light one can see right through the beer and the color is a red-brown. Aroma is spot on macro-Baltic Porter with burnt roast corn. A weird combination of light chocolate sweetness and a nasty cheap macro corn. Taste starts watery chocolate sweet and finishes with a nasty cheap corn. A long burnt paper aftertaste. Very light bodied with a felt carbonation.
Kiev trip, 500ml bottle, hotel standard lowball glass. larsga (2481), Oslo, Norway Sep 2, 2007 Big yellowish brown head. Deep dark red translucent body. Syrupy licorice and toffee aroma. Deep sweet burnt coffee and licorice taste with toffee and paper notes. Dry chocolatey aftertaste. Leaves sticky sweetness on the lips. Very nice. Quite possibly Ukraine’s second best beer. (0.5l bottle, streetside café, Lviv.)
