Commercial Description:
A full-bodied, traditional I.P.A. that is bronze in color, Castaway IPA is "dry hopped" (aged with whole hop flowers after fermentation) for assertive hop flavor and aroma. The bitterness is balanced by the malty body of the beer.

On tap at the brewery-- This one rates way up there on my scale. This brew has everything I want in a beer--superb balance of flavors, hearty hop aroma and taste, nice pallate & appearance--very close to the perfect brew. Wish the brewery wasn't thousands of miles away...

Draft @ Falling Rock: Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head. Nice big piney aroma. Matching big piney flavor. Some sweet malt as a base but hop foward all the way. Moderately bitter long dry finish.

A good solid India Pale Ale. Rich and creamy. Good tasty bitterness. Fruity citrus hoppiness. Well balanced and very drinkable. On tap at the brewery in Kona.

On tap at Koko Marina Pub. Pours a nice copper orange with a decent white head. Aroma is citrusy hops, pine, malt. Flavor is much the same with a lot of citrus, hops, pine, and a decent malt backbone to balance it all out. The dry hopping is quite noticable and adds a lot of aroma and taste to this one. Good IPA.

On tap at the Kona Brewery Brewpub in Kona. Probably the only IPA on the island, this one is worthy of the visit to the brewery (the food is excellent too!). Very deep orange color, possessing a teriffic hoppy nose, I was in IPA heaven. They really should bottle this one too.

Hoppy aroma with light citrus notes and some sweetness. Murky, orange, with off-white head. Excellent lace. Head is a little diminishing. Very nice flavor. They need to bottle this. Creamy. Not fabulous and a little unbalanced toward the hops, but good. I’d drink this all the time if I lived on the Islands near one of the Kona brewpubs. Very good overall.

On tap at Kailua-Kona Brewery. Quite a nice IPA. Good fresh hops aroma and flavor, substantial body without being overly malty, and very well integrated alcohol strength. A great drinking experience out on the patio surrounded by their geckos.

I had this beer on tap at the brewery while I was on vacation there. This is light amber in color with a slightly off-white head. It has a very strong hop aroma with heavy grapefruit aromas. The flavor is surprisingly malty, but the hops do dominate. This beer has a high level of bitterness, as is expected. The hop flavor makes apparent the use of dry hopping. This medium bodied beer has decent drinkability, but I would have rated it higher if I was a bigger fan of double IPA’s in general.
