Flavor has a big floral hop burst at the get go with a good full malt mouthfeel and a bit of a bisquity, hay ending. Overall a good beer that I’d drink again and went well with fish. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 21, 2008 For an American Pale, this was a little different. The aroma and appearance were typical for a pale ale, but the mouthfeel and flavor were a little bit atypical. The Fire Rock seemed a little heavier than most plae ales. There was a normal spicy hop presence and a higher than normal taste of the caramel malts. SDbruboy (1833), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 21, 2008 12 oz. bottle, from Keils Grocery in San Diego. Pours clear orangey-amber with a smallish white head that leaves spots of lace. Aroma of grainy malts, a bit of caramel and toast, grass and floral hops. Nice pale ale flavor, biscuity, with a hint of fruit, sweetish herbs, more florals and some alfalfa. Medium body and gentle carbonation. HonkeyBra (1376), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Had this at an Oakland Athletics game. Copper color, Sweet aroma, kind of bitter slightly fruity taste. Got gross as it warmed. I’m not saying this is a beer that sucks, but it’s almost a beer that sucks, BeerBelcher (945), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Poured a dark amber with a minimal head. Served far, far too cold by the horrible establishment I drank it in. Even so, aroma was still demonstrably bitter and slightly sweet without being very fruity or citrus-y. Taste was definitely bitter, but not in a really fun or unique way. Mouthfeel was fine. I thought that this was OK and far better than the alternatives presented to me. In the same circumstances (limited selection) I’d no doubt have it again, but with a wider selection, no way.
I had this at "Cheeseburger - Las Vegas," which is definitely not Cheeseburger paradise. Beer list was all Anheuser-Busch distributed beers, which includes the Kona beers. Beer was OK, service was OK, food was lousy and overpriced, with some severely unpleasant and detrimental effects later. TheBeerBaron (219), Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 18, 2008 See thru copper hue. Small head that actually laces when tilted and a slow amount of carbonation that can be seen through the translucent beer. Wheat aroma with butterscotch followed by a grassy hop smell. A nutty malt flavor akin to fine english ales. A dry finish due to a skillful hopping. Well balanced palate that is quenching yet displays some substance on your tongue and throat. Amazing how water and ingredients from the Hawaii Isles emulates the British Isles. buckyp (32), Rio Rancho, New Mexico, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 14, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Poured clear light caramel with minimal head that went away immediately. Aroma mild with mostly wet grass with some sweet fruitiness. Flavor okay with mild hops giving way to fruity maltiness quickly. Not much lingering or noticeable finish. ansermadide (526), Kyle, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2008 (12oz bottle from June 13th Beer Club Weekly Sampling) Golden-orange color with a nice, frothy head. No carbonation. Nose is of a light pale, taste is almost fruity pale, and light. Almost creamy on the tongue. Barely bitter. Had this after a Belgian sour ale, so I’m sure this is improperly reviewed/rated. Pretty good, though. No complaints.
