Commercial Description:
Hula Hefeweizen is a traditional Bavarian-style weissbier that is medium to full bodied with a pronounced banana / herbal flavor and aroma. This unique flavor profile is a result of the special type of yeast strain used to brew this beer.

On tap at the Kona Brew Pub on Oahu. Poured a deeper and cloudy golden yellow color with a smaller sized head. Aromas of bananas, cloves, and pepper. Tastes of the same but on the weaker and somewhat watery side. Light citrus in there as well.

Draught, Kona Brewpub, HI. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is murky dark yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (bread), with notes of banana and clove. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. One of the better offerings from Kona (and yeah, that includes the Da Grind, which I’m not fond of), an accurate representation of a German Hefe (who the heck put this in the db as an American Wheat???).

Milky and opaque, cloudy and orange. Good banana-like aroma but only a light yeasy character, while lightly fruity.

I sampled this beer at Kona Brewing in Kona, HI. This is a solid hefe: banana & clove on the nose, tangy flavor. very good

This seems to be the latest of the Kona's to have made it to SoCal and must be new asit's not listed on their website. Many people at my work order it for the name but I think that Kona makes some really good beers. The hefe is no exception amd may be one of the closest examples I've found to a German wheat, with cloves both in the aroma and on the palate, while there's some backbone with apricot and banana fruitiness. No lemon needed.

Strong banana aroma. Murky, dark orange body with no head. Nice flavor. Fruity. Good complexity of flavors. I would put this up against most American Hefe’s and it would do quite well. A good effort.
