Commercial Description:
Longboard Lager is a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for five weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer.

Bottle. [Enjoyed on the beach of Miami with the good company of hopscotch and wife] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Pale yellow color. Mild flower and nice dry hoppy feel over the palate. Light caramel and mild toasted malt as well. Light bodied with an average carbonation and light dry texture. Light bitter and sweet flavor. Light dry and bitter finish. Ok Lager in the hot sun.

12oz bottle. Very hazy, clearly unfiltered orange tan color. Hmm...certainly not good, certainly not bad...sub-par offering from Kona. Im assuming this is the flagship beer and that the relatively high rating is due to touristic exuberance, or international exotica fanfare. Sessionable, but this could pass for BMC pseudo-micro anyday. Some light lemony flavor and a fluffy malty mouthfeel, thanks to the lack of filtration. Tolerable session beer, nothing to seek out.

it’s ok, Not bitter and light colored. Had no flavor really. Tasted like something thin. Some carbonation.

Pale golden with a healthy white head. Lightly hopped with pale malts and cereal. A little stale but what you’d expect from a good lager. Sweet and easy malts on the tongue, slips on down with cereal tastiness like tat of cheerios. Well judged carbonation, a little thin but that keeps it refreshing. Very easy and drinkable. Sweet and refreshing, a handy lager to have around in the island heat.

Poured well, but smelled a bit funky. Taste is good and unexpectedly full. Bit of a corny/malty aftertaste that while not unpleasant... isn’t exactly completely pleasing. Compares well to other beers in this category, but is not necessarily a big standout. Might buy it again if the price is right. One quick note... Don’t miss out on the inside of the caps, each of which teach you a word in Hawaiian. Just 1200 more Kona Longboards and I think I’ll be able to order a beer in a Kona bar and compliment the bartender in the native language.

10/22/08 From the bottle. Aroma is medium pils corny with a moderate pils background. Appearance is clear straw yellow with a well maintained white head. Flavor is sour, but not strong, pils malt forward; sweetness comes with time, fairly complex, with a quite floral noble finish. Mouthfeel is low bodied with a light slickness (diacetyl?) and high carb texture. Overall, easy drinking and more to it than example from macro brews.

On tap at Beachside in Encinitas. Poured clear golden color with medium head and light carbonation. Sightly sweet with light hops. Smooth and easy to drink. Could use more carbonation. Not bad, but forgettable.

On tap at Woodstock’s, Santa Barbara. Nice lager, complimented with some excellent pizza. Malty lager with sweet and spicy flavors.
