| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 10, 2008 Bottle: Dark golden in color with caramel overtones running through the nose along with a touch of chocolate and citric honey. The palate is more of the same and while the midpalate is semi-sweet the finish is quite dry and abrupt. Eh. junon (221), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2008 Updated: Aug 23, 2009Not bad. Not too much on the nose though. Taste is well its a lager. No problem drinking it if offered and may even choose it over other more well known names if at a pub.
Re-rating this. Palates improved. This is nutty! Buttery. Much more creamy than I remember. However the nose is reminiscent of detergent. I will have to compare this to Maui’s Bikini Blonde Lager, my favorite lager, and surprisingly I have to say I prefer this Kona. The colour is superior, the taste is comparable, and however the alc% is higher. This actually looks like its trying to be something more than a lager, say an IPA, however not quite. The taste a bit bolder but still smooth and lite. As far as lager goes maybe not the better lager but arguably the better beer. Very interesting. Bumping up the flavor to 7 from 5 and the overall to 14 from 12. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 7, 2008 Sadly, I wasn’t impressed with this brew. Your typical lager, it pours dark, but clear amber colour with a small white head. Carries a soft somewhat fruity character, which for a little while transports you somewhere tropical (if you close your eyes and imagine). Carmel, plum and toffee in the flavor. Looks like a regular ole Lager ... smell seems quite average to, but better than any BMC ... Is enjoyable! ... quite full for a widely available lager ...

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 6, 2008 Not much aroma to it but it does have a nice taste. While typical of most lagers this one is a bit better than most. It has a nice balance to it that gives a malty flavor at first sip but then the hops began to show themselves giving it a bitter finish. The Hawaiian words with translations under the cap are cool too. Wonder how many a person would have to drink to learn to speak Hawaiian. jjuf1853 (471), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Bottle pours a clear pale yellow with a small foamy white head. Aroma of sweet malts mostly. Flavor begins fairly sweet, some grassy, earthy notes, mild hops, and finishes with a slight bitterness. Quite smooth and refreshing. dkachur (2399), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Pours a peachy straw yellow with a small head. Very bitter aroma with a honey background. Honey sweetness in the taste also with a nice fruitiness. Some bitterness. Highly drinkable. Suttree (2734), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Gold yellow, virtually no head. White bread, malty aroma, flavor is pretty much the same. Mostly inoffensive. Sampled at the Raleigh WBF.
