Feb 20, 2007 Draft. Rich bronze color with a nice off-white head. Malty, fruity, earthy aroma. Malty flavor with summer fruits and some raisins. Lingering peach/appricot with malt backing.

Nov 14, 2006 Tap of the 2002 vintage @ Toronado 2005 barley wine festival. Dark reddish brown color with a light brown head. A big caramel malt flavor with vanilla accents.

Aug 12, 2006 2005 - On tap at the Kailua-Kona brewery. Pours out a rather dull brown with few if any highlights and a thin head. The aroma is rich, sweet, and malty but falls a little flat. Flavor is good--strong alcohol and a good amount of maltiness--though less sweet than I would have expected. This is combined with a high degree of hops bitterness with little hops flavor. A good barleywine though not this brewery’s forte.

Mar 1, 2005 2/19/05. On tap at Toronado Barleywine Festival ’04 in San Francisco, CA 2/19/05. 2002 Vintage. Beady tan head dissipates quickly. Deep red-brown colors with burgundy shading. Medium-hazy with weak lacing. Fruity aroma with subtle sweetness to whet the appetite. Big sweet flavor with some dry bitterness, playing in the mouth with a fruity bite and hints of tough leather. A nice interplay that really adds to the beer. Leathery dryness accentuated in the finish. A bit thin from overworking, and I think it’d be killer if it had a bit creamier texture and maltier taste. Impressive, studied alcohol pop. The 12.5% is there, but it all seemed tastefully controlled.

Mar 1, 2005 02.19.05 2002 on tap at Toronado BWF Pretty dark brew but flat looking and feeling. Nice balance but nothing special. Alcohol was very present to me, especially for a 2002 beer, but that added to a nice peppery finish. It was a long day. Some peach, some citrus.

Feb 1, 2005 On tap at the 2005 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. This beer won third place at the Festival, but I didn’t get it. I thought it looked murky orange with a thin beige foamy head. It seemed under carbonated. Sweet alcohol nose with a syrupy mouthfeel. Flavors of honey, sweet caramel and some vanilla. It seemed a little raw. I must be the minority in this one.

Dec 11, 2003 GABF '03 Fruity,spicy,extremely malty with a flavor of molasses.One of the better barely wines I've ever had.
