I wish more porters had coffee right up front like this one did. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Pours a deep brown with a tan head. Smells a little sweet of chocolate and coffee grounds. Taste is a little bakers chocolate and a lot of fresh coffee. Very thin and watery on the palate with a coffee aftertaste. Nicely drinkable but falls short in areas I thought it would shine in. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2007 I had this beer on tap at the brewery while I was on vacation there. This has a dark ruby color which is very similar to the Black Sand Porter that Kona makes as well. Very little sunlight is able to penetrate the glass. The aroma from the pint glass is extremely powerful. As my nose approached the glass, I was got strong dark roast coffee aromas; almost like an espresso. The espresso flavor was present as well. This beer had a very heavy coffee flavor with a hint of chocolate on the back end. I love how this medium to heavy bodied beer tastes on my tongue. This is one of my favorite Kona brews. Although the bottled beer is not made at the same brewery as the kegged beer, I would highly recommend this beer to anyone that likes robust porters.

Pours a very dark brown with a slight fizzy head that quickly gives way to one of the least carbonated beers I’ve had. Strong coffee in the aroma & flavor. Nice roasted malts. Slightly bitter, but overall mild brew. Somewhat thin if not oily mouthfeel. Smooth & easy drinking. Overall a good, unique porter. RollinHard (761), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2007 Thanks to Secret Santa for sending this. Pours brown with a khaki colored modest head. Aroma of fresh coffee, peanuts, toast, and something sweet and milky if I let the glass sit still without any swirling. Roasty astringency is there, but it’s balanced with a sweet mlky taste. Finishes milkier and creamier with a bit of toast and just a slight bit of hop bitterness. Pretty thin mouthfeel, but it comes off as totally intentional cause this beer is wonderfully drinkable. I haven’t had a beer like this that begs the question of "where’s the next one?" in a long time. I love the easy going nature of this beer. Any astringency is balanced by sweetness, but all flavors are mild, and really easy going. Very nice! junon (221), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Pours almost solid dark brown. I needed a strong back light to get any penetration. Coffee aroma does come through very well. Heavy coffee flavor with almost no presence of alcoholic taste. Coats the mouth nicely and does have a slight bitter finish. I will compare this to Maui’s CoCoNut Porter and say that for a "Seasonal" they perhaps should step up the alcohol content. Very good.
