Commercial Description:
Pipeline Porter is smooth and dark with a distinctive roasty aroma and earthy complexity from its diverse blends of premium malted barley. This celebration of malt unites with freshly roasted 100% Kona coffee grown at Cornwell Estate on Hawaii’s Big Island, lending a unique roasted aroma and flavor. A delicate blend of hops rounds out this palate-pleasing brew.

The beer decamps the 12-ounce bottle a rich deep brown to black with sparkling ruby highlights, the moderate creamy light tan head, crowns the glass, upon its demise, the lacing forms a surrounding sheet on the glass. Nose has a deep rich coffee aroma, sweet malt and chocolate back it up superbly, Start has a pleasing roasted grain presence, sweet with a nice twang at the back, top is light to moderate in feel to the palate. Finish as a beneficent acidity, the hops delectable, and the coffee like taste carries to the slightly bitter dry end, a fine porter, quite a nice drinking beer this one.

Pretty much what you’d expect from a Porter with coffee flavors.

Currently playing: Howard Stern show.

Pours black with lacey tan head. Nice coffeehouse aromas. Taste is a little underwhelming, thin body. Faint coffee finish.

10/11/07 From the bottle. Aroma is solid roast malt that seems like a mix of almost all the malt flavors you can think of, with what I can only describe as a haze of coffee floating over it. Appearance is dark brown with a low off-white head. Flavor is slightly sour bitter roast malt with a ton of chocolatey coffee flavors and no hop notes. Mouthfeel is medium/high bodied and has a strong carbonic/roast texture. Overall, this is interesting but not as easy drinking as I’d like; would like to try after aging for a while.

I first poured this beer and then read the label "100% kona coffee." Crap, it’s a work night... does this mean I’m not going to be falling asleep for a long time? Well I can’t let beer go to waste so I guess we’ll just have to find out. Pours nearly opaqe dark brown/black. I can hold it up to the light and there is a gorgeous red glow. Aroma is rich burnt grains, I don’t smell any coffee yet. Flavor is very rich with burnt grains at first and then a mild coffee taste creeps in, not too overpowering though. Finishes similar to a cup of strong coffee. Coffee flavor complements the beer very nicely. Body is just lovely, creamy and smooth. A unique porter... good enough for breakfast!

Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a medium black color porter with coke-like carbonation and a very small foamy head that disappeared way too quickly. Aroma of weak coffee notes with some light roasted malt as well. Taste is comprised of weak malt with some roasted bitter notes and some weak coffee notes. Body is way too watery for the style with some low carbonation. I’m not sure if I had a bad bottle but this is definitely not too good.

Bottle - This nice dark roasted color porter has a strong coffee aroma with hints of roasted grain. The head is light and dissipates quickly. This one took a few drinks to adjust to the strong coffee overtones but then was a really great tasting beer. I think that this has potential as a breakfast beer with the strong coffee overtones.
