JCB (1191), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 15, 2008 12oz from Sam’s, Durham. Dark, thick pour with a substantive body and moderate head. Huge roasted malts and coffee in the nose, exactly my hopes in picking up this beer for the first time. No overpowering bitterness, but just a deep flavor that’s well suited to the abundant malting and gives this beer depth (along with a killer finish). I’ll be getting this again, for sure.
Capa (771), Yokosuka, Japan Jan 6, 2009 Black pour with a cream, tan head. Aroma is light bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, slightly sour, coffee, with some caramel malt as well. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is nicely rounded. It starts with some light coffee, sour, chocolate, and roasted malts. A very nice beer. The coffee isn’t as intense as I was expecting which makes for a more enjoyable porter. timfoolery (419), California, USA Jan 5, 2009 Bottle brought to poker night by Isaac. This beer was obviously a bit like coffee and chocolate with some caramel notes in there. Nice medium bodied beer. AdamGott (168), Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Jan 4, 2009 Nice dark brown pour with slight coffee aroma and roasted malt. excellent blend of malt and coffee with notes of caramel, malt, espresso and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. bradlyc77 (101), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 4, 2009 Updated: Jan 5, 2009Pours dark brownish/black with tan head that subsides. Creamy and sweet with hints of chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee, and a touch of dark rye bread. Very malty finish. Didn’t detect much hops. Overall a nice beverage but a bit sweet. djd07 (414), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 3, 2009 On tap at Luckys. Has a dark brown thick frothy light tan head. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Good sticky lacing on the glass. The taste is similar to the aroma with nice dry finish. A good porter from Kona.
