Commercial Description:
Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor's Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

Wow, this is horrible! Hazy golden with a small fading head. Aroma is mostly wheaty/minty with a vague tropical fruitiness. A touch of spiciness. Goes downhill fast once you drink it however, with a sharp acidic twang, like bad crotch. Empty finish but with a lingering grossness. Wow, and I got 5 more of these. I hope my neighbor likes it.

Pale straw yellow. Foam dissapears to absolutely nothing and no carbonation makes this beer resemble apple juice. Bready smell but also a soapy aroma with bannana as well. A sweet tasting beer with a wheat feel and a pleasant hop bite. Palate is even and pleasant. Not a total package but taste of this beer make up for its crummy appearance.

On tap. Pours hazy light gold with a slender white head. Sweet aroma of toffee and some tropical fruit. Sweet flavor, dominated by passion fruit, with the toffee going along for the ride. Quite possibly the quintessential girlfriend beer.

I seem to be reviewing a lot of wheat beers lately. ’Tis the season I guess. The passion fruit smells awesome and gives the beer a great aroma, melding well with the slight hop aroma. The fruity taste is good at first, but sort of becomes sour, perhaps too much passion fruit. But hey, one can never have too much passion.

Normally will not drink beer with fruit in it. I didn’t realize it had passion fruit added until I got home. But for a fruity beer this was o.k. Maybe the fact it was a cloudy wheat beer made a difference. Nice P.F. aroma, big white head, fair lacings. Interesting taste. The fruit adds a certain tang to the normal wheat beer flavors and is quite nice. Might be the choice for beer to take to a Luau . Would enjoy it in Hawaii for sure. Refreshing. Packaged on May 8, 2008. Nice to have that date, thanks Kona Brewing.

This pours with a finger of head and looks cloudy. The smell is really punchy, it must be the passion fruit. Taste is very citrus with a the passion fruit on top. THe aftertaste isn’t to pleasant. I don’t think i’ll get this one again

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with one finger white head with some spotty lacing. Nose is funky passion fruit gone bad. Palate is light malts, wheat and a sweet and sour passion fruit finish. Lighter mouth feel. Interesting beer. Not something I’d try again, but interesting…
