jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Sep 29, 2008 Tasting at Three CEllars. FRance and Beer just do not go togther. Watery and laking in flavor ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 25, 2008 $1.79 for a 12 oz. single at Total Wine in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a clear, goldish body with a small, white head. Splotchy lacing.
Smell: Light pale maltiness with a bit of doughiness to it. Mild, musty skunk notes.
Taste: Light pale malts with a mild, restrained sweetness and a hint of dough and grits. Faint, brief traces of lemon and apple fruitiness. Floral hops with a light bitterness. Dry finish with a hint of the alcohol within.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: While 1664 isn’t quite 1337, it’s better than a sizable portion of the endless parade of Euro lagers available. Bontus (291), Waasmunster, Belgium Sep 22, 2008 Had a few bottles in France. Liked it better than the imported bottles of Stella. Had no metallic taste or other flaws so it received an "OK" mark by me. Beltramelli (471), Campinas, Brazil Sep 18, 2008 Coloração dopurada transparente, creme pouco denso e consistente. Suave, apenas com uma leve de malte e lúpulo. Final metalizado. fata2683 (835), Panama City, Florida, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle, from our hotel in Paris. Nothing special, slighly sweet and light. Refreshing but lacking the flavor of beer. davidCC (130), New York, USA Sep 13, 2008 Draft. This had a distinct metallic flavor but different than say Heiniken. I thought this was good but would not pay a premium price for it. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Sep 7, 2008 Poured into a pint glass. Crystal clear gold color with an off white head. The foam is 2 fingers high and leaves a surprisingly thick coat of lacing on the glass. Great retention too, none of the fizziness of the typical crappy pale lager.
Aroma is faint, non skunk but not much of anything at all. Maybe a touch of grain and a touch of corn.
Flavor is very light, with toasted grain and a bit of adjunct sweetness. No hops, no skunk. Watery.
Palate is well carbonated and thin, and utterly refreshing. Flavor falls off a cliff leaving no lingering aftertaste. Pretty crisp, maybe a little residual stickiness from the adjuncts.
Decent pale lager, easy to drink. dwaggs2 (530), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Sep 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a straw yellow with a two finger white head. Head disappears quickly. Aroma is skunky and malty, some corn is present. Flavor is crisp and clean. Very easy drinking beer.
