Smell is not very powerful but pleasant. Has a carmel and coffee aroma. Taste was very mild and had a watered down feel with light carbonation. Roasted coffee and malt flavors were good, I just wish a bit stronger. I think this is a good beer but it is one you need to be in the mood for. Tripplebrew (502), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 17, 2008 500 ml, "born by" date is 25 07 2007. Small but lasting, creamy head atop the nearly opaque mahogany body. Aroma is char and smoky, spicy molasses. Flavor is at first cardboard, chalk, and molasses, then later some coffee and cola steeped in peppery herbs. Some char, cocoa, and dried wood are also in the flavor mix throughout. Some sweetened molasses show up in the aftertaste. Lots of flavors in this one. Medium body has a watery mouthfeel, but is astringent and chalky-dry on the tongue. Pretty much to the style description. mountainforest (111), Edinburgh, Scotland
