| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 22, 2009 1/2 liter bottle at redlight redlight. Pours dark brown but still translucent. A little thin. Smells like raw cacao with hints of black liquorice. Woody, just a tad roasty, nothing but dark malts. The flavor definitely leaves something to be desired. Not much going on. Really much too thin. saxo (3609), Hřjbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark

Pitch black, impenetrable colour, medium soapy off-white head with plenty of lacing. Medium body, low carbonation from the cask, creamy mouthfeel. Aroma of licorice and malt, little else. Taste of bitter chocolate and coffee and a tad of "coal", with a dry, medium bitter finish and a lingering, mildly bitter after taste. Fairly straightforward "schwarzbier", therefore sessionable and quite smooth if not terribly characterful. I can think of a number of more complex, more interesting stouts from England and Ireland! mcberko (157), British Columbia, Canada

Nose is coffee and hops, musty tobacco, some pit fruits. Tastes very coffee like with no sweetness whatsoever. Dry and hoppy with dark chocolate too. Surprisingly light bodied and super easy drinking. Very good. Thanks Milos!
