Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Black/brown with a light brown and creamy head. The first time I tasted it I liked it, but didn’t really pay enough attention to it. the second time I fell a bit in love with it... It’s easy to drink, has a low ABV and a good body. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, and so does the flavour, where I also find notes of caramel, licorice and a nice bitterness. Whenever I go to Germany, I buy this one, but it’s also relatively cheap here in Denmark from time to time...

Dark brown colour. Aroma very faint, probably malty. Taste is pretty faint too: there are distant echoes of toasted malt, caramel, chocolate and slight bitterness. Drinkable, but not very exciting.

Pours deep mahogany with creamy thick beige head. Nose is caramelly maltiness, with hints of milk chocolate and toasted bread. Flavor is light breadiness, some grassy hops, some sourness, finish has very light coffee flavors. Mouthfeel is light, even a little on the watery side.

Pours with a beige, three-finger head that fades quickly and leaves some lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Deep mahogany color. Nose is roasted chocolate/coffee. Flavor is roasted coffee, clean finish, good session beer. $2.70 for a 500ml bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

I was really impressed by this beer. From the label, I thought this would be some bitter imperial BS from the baltics, but I was pleasantly content on the finish. Barely any smell. Big black tarry palate with no terrible bitter offense. Chewy burned campfire. Odd medium flat creamy carbonation that is unique and desireable. Keeps you interested and comming back for sips repeatidly. Nice well behaved finish like any good dark beer without any implications of bitter linger that is so common with big black beers. Flat tar coated roofs. Comes on more like a higher alky brew than is listed here. On par with Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager, one of the better tasting schwartz I’ve had. Certainly yards ahead of Rogue Black Brutal 2007, Sammy’s Black Lager and Köstritzer Schwarzbier.

Pours dark reddish brown with a creamy beige head. Flavor is roasted and malts. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than what I prefer. Decent, but not great.
