The first time I tasted it I liked it, but didn’t really pay enough attention to it. the second time I fell a bit in love with it... It’s easy to drink, has a low ABV and a good body. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, and so does the flavour, where I also find notes of caramel, licorice and a nice bitterness. Whenever I go to Germany, I buy this one, but it’s also relatively cheap here in Denmark from time to time... hughie (3060), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Dec 11, 2007 Dark brown colour. Aroma very faint, probably malty. Taste is pretty faint too: there are distant echoes of toasted malt, caramel, chocolate and slight bitterness. Drinkable, but not very exciting. asedzie (456), San Francisco, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Updated: Jul 11, 2008I was really impressed by this beer. From the label, I thought this would be some bitter imperial BS from the baltics, but I was pleasantly content on the finish. Barely any smell. Big black tarry palate with no terrible bitter offense. Chewy burned campfire. Odd medium flat creamy carbonation that is unique and desireable. Keeps you interested and comming back for sips repeatidly. Nice well behaved finish like any good dark beer without any implications of bitter linger that is so common with big black beers. Flat tar coated roofs. Comes on more like a higher alky brew than is listed here. On par with Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager, one of the better tasting schwartz I’ve had. Certainly yards ahead of Rogue Black Brutal 2007, Sammy’s Black Lager and Köstritzer Schwarzbier. beisen (90), California, USA
