Jul 23, 2007 Grainy wholesome sweet dark bread like aroma with notes of hay and a touch of smokiness. Clear and very dark brown with lighter highlights topped by a low, off white head that recedes to a lasting partial cover with some spotty lacing. Caramel sweetness is balanced well by dark malts and hop bitterness and a hint of smoke. Dark malt character lingers as it should. Nice complexity of flavour considering the low ABV. Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from the fridge. Bottle (Best Before 19-02-2007, Brewery Creek, May-07).

Jul 20, 2007 500ml bottle. Very dark red. Sweet, fruity aroma. Sweet to taste with a touch of smoke. Interesting but not outstanding.

Jul 19, 2007 .5 liter bottle, "Born by" 9 Nov 06. A little long for this to be on a shelf, but that’s the risk. Light smell of schwarz malt when opened. Deep brown/black body, wavy tan head. Taste kind of like a homebrew version of a schwarz: a bit grainier and more astringent than, say, the Sprecher, but again I can put that to age. Some sourness, then notes of coffee. Dries off like a stout. Finishes with a bit of rauch. Mouthfeel is kind of thin and watery. Another one I’ll have to catch fresh if I ever can.

Jul 18, 2007 500ml bottle: Dark reddish brown with a solid fortress of foam defending the liquid. The aroma is almost smoky, but while there’s a little bit of smoke in the quaff, the flavor is more predominately sweet roasty malt ... and the relatively thin body doesn’t hold up to the promise. Jul 9, 2007 Bottle from BevMo. Woot! My 10th Schwarzbier. Dark brownish color, with a sizable tan head. Lightly sweet roasted malt aroma. Sweet chocolate up front. Some mild coffee flavors. Finish is coffee. Somewhat thin. Drinkable.
