Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Bottle shared with skyview and scluffman. Dark roasted malt nose on a dark brown beer with creamy brown head. Creamy and smooth body with a slightly sweet dark roasted malt characteristic.

From bottle shared at Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear dark brown brew with a thick off white lumpy head that diminishes slowly to a fine film and good lacing. Aroma is smokey molasses, roasted nuts, hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste is lightly carbonated, thick, some caramelized malt taste and a short grassy bittnerness finish.

Despite the engine oil pour, quite a sweetly malty snout with a hint of raisin. Thin beige head with a few wisps of lace. Opens with a strange, burnt paper graininess before developing some not unpleasant creamy malt flavours. Hints of smoke and yeast extract in the finish. Bohemian Mild, with an added dollop of odd, rubbery burnt cereal flavour.

Bottle. A dark red colour of the body with a rather dark brown head with is not to long lasting. The aroma is dark roasted with a hint of sweetness (Cola with some cream sherry of something strange?). The taste on the palate is mild and a little bit bitter (coffee) but to watery for my taste. The duration of the finish is ok. A good dark beer but nothing special (not as good as the Störtebeker Schwarzbier).

50 cl bottle from Plaza Liquor - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a half finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Has a light roasted malt and herbal hop aroma. Light toasted malt flavor. Medium body. A decent beer.

Average beer. I expected more. Grassy aroma, decent head, ho-hum taste, overly carbonated...nothing special.

(500 ml bottle, "born by" date 9/27/06) Eehh...Pours clear dark tea brown with one finger of nice, creamy-looking biscuit head. Has a fairly mild aroma of chocolate, caramel, perhaps coffee roast. Mouthfeel is kind of thin, surprisingly fizzy. Nice rings of lacing. Flavor is mild and chocolatey, kind of like a mild chocolate shake with a bit of roastiness. Hints of sour in finish. Definitely could use a bolder flavor and some more heft in the palate.
