Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys.A rich mahogany colour with a beige head; deep slightly sour caramel malt aroma; light body, sweet but not overpowering; leaving the mouth dry with a smoky finish.

Pours light tan frothy head. Very dark brownish color, though light can be seen through if held up to a light source. Thin body. Aroma is comparable to a wet brown paper bag. Little malt flavor to speak of. No hop charactor to speak of. Think I’ll pass on this one the next time around.

Bottle, 50 cl, 3.5 % abv. Dark reddish brown, clear, with medium fluffy beige head. Roasted malt dominate, along with burnt sugar, butterscotch, and some floral hops. Medium bodied and smooth. discrete sweetness and a moderate bitterness, dry finish.

Black with no head upon pouring from the bottle.Very easy to drink with plenty of body considering its relatively low strength. Some traces of smokiness and overall a very refreshing drink. Thanks to Sainsburys for having the foresight to put this on their shelves.

Poured a dark brown/black with an off white head that faded. Aromas of roast nuts, coffee and malt, with a hint of chocolate. A malty hop flavour, with hints of roast nuts, dark chocolate. Quite sweet and milky. Slightly bitter in the finish. Good full mouthfeel. Great dark beer, highly enjoyable.

Bottle and Draught. Full taste, crisp, caramel and very sweet. Well rounded for a macro beer.
