Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

(500ml bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Wine Merchants in Vic West. Pours an medium almond-coloured head with a deep reddish body. Toasted malt aroma. The flavour has a decent complexity: bitter chocolate, toffee and a balanced sweetness. A pretty good find by Spinnakers.

Pours near black with deep ruby hues and a mostly receindg tan head. Aroma of dark bread, rye, smoke, and raisins. Taste is smokey, light notes of pepper and metallic lager breadiness. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with soft carbonation. This beer intimidates initially, fooling the drinker into thinking this might be a roasty conqueror of taste buds. Instead the beer is rather bland, and falls off quickly. Not bad, but not truly enjoyable.

Pours black. Tan head. Aroma of licorice. Not much else going on. Roasted malt flavor.

Savannah, Ga. Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 500 ml bottle. Black as tar pour, thickish mocha head. Roasty aroma with bitter chocolate and liqueur accents. Dry roasted flavor with bittersweet chocolate, licorice, some pepper in the finish. Smooth clean mouthfeel that metallicizes just a tad near the end which drops it a bil. However, one of the better Schwarzes I have had.

Pleasant surprise, given to me by fellow LoSBD member, Cornfield. Deep black pour with a very rich tan head that lingered for a very long time. Nice roasty aroma. The first taste was roasted caramel, toffee, and a bit of a strange "tang" in the finish...somewhat tart or sour. Thankfully this stayed in the distant background. Very light lager-like texture...making it possible to knock these back pretty quickly. I wish there were more examples of this style out there.

Beautiful pour, smooth black with a smooth forever-lasting tan head. Light red hue shows in the light. Creamy mouthfeel with a light acidity in the finish. Roastiness was nice and subtle and carried coffee and burnt chocolate into the finish.

From a .5 liter brown bottle, pours an opaque dark brown with a thick white head. Dark malty aroma followed by a black malt flavor with a light-to-medium body and short clean finish.

Tap. Pours very dark with a nice frothy head. The aromas is dominated by roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is of molasses, roasted malts and a slight sweetness. The beer is fairly light bodied, so it is more refreshing than the typical Schwarzbier.
