Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Black beer, 500ml bottle Pours with an uneven (big bubbles on the top, small on the bottom) however beautiful light-light brown head. Strong aroma of dark sugar and burnt barney. Body light though oily, floating on the tongue. Bittersweet taste of surprisingly few flawors, mostly malt but not as burnt as the aroma suggested.

Very dark chcolate brown with a fizzy but well formed head. Some lager notes on the nose, very faint roasted malts, and just a fraction metallic. Very similar in the mouth; the roast picks up a notch but still very much in the subtle mould, probably not inappropriate for the style. Drank at the end of the shelf life, and could have suffered a little as a result.

Bottle. Dark brown with medium head. Kinda mainstream. Very mild and non threatening. Almost boring.

Big beige creamy head with some lace in it over dark red, seemingly black, body. Smoky, meaty aroma with some rubber. Sweetish, roasty malt taste, thinnish, with a lovely, velvety, sooty, burnt toast aftertaste. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Silky sootiness lingers. A very good beer. It could do with some more body, but I just love the smooth burntness. (0.5l bottle.)

50cl bottle. Very dark brown, lasting dark beige head. Of the 3 cernys I had I would say that this is my favourite. Malt aroma is better balanced, there is a more sour charcoal malt finish. Less toffee dominated, bit like a mild. Attractive roast malt aroma. good choc/coffee finish. Bit powdery.3.2/5.0 Re-rate On tap at Plachetnice, Plzen. More choccy than I remembered, good fullness. Enjoyable.

Can, BB Aug/06 Very light Czech dark bearl: Dark brown with thick beige head, slightly malty aroma with caramel, light body, watery, low carbonation. Maybe good for washing your shoes off.

Bottle. Creamy off-white mostly lasting head. Very dark amber colour. Week aroma and thin flavor. Very watery, but it is still an ok beer although I was a bit disapointed.
