Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Also ratings of the Swedish 3.5% ABV version should be entered here.
Harmony between taste and beauty - Dark beer is the traditional product of the Royal Brewery of Krušovice and for more than 100 years the production of this beer has not stopped. The beer has a full, sweet caramel taste and a light hop flavour. The high quality of the raw ingredients assures the excellent taste of the beer. There are several types of malt, natural spring water from the Křivoklát Wood and hops from the Žatec area.

Bottle shared with DuffmanSW. Pours dark brown with a hint of red and a fast dissipating beige head. Aroma is roasty with coffee and some metallic stuff that I seem to pick up pretty often in beers like this. Flavor is roasty with some burnt toast, smoke, and cold black coffee. Palate is on the thin side with a nice medium carbonation. Not bad.

500ml Bottle: Aroma of malts and roasting. Poured brown/ruby in color with a tiny off-white head that lasted around the edges. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium bitter and slightly sweet. Tastes of dark malts, roasting, slight caramel, slight cardboard, light wood, and some nuts. Light to medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Malty, lightly bitter, woody finish is dry.

On tap at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Pours a reddish brown hue with a foamy tan head. Aroma of malted barley, caramel, and a hint of hops. Very nice, smooth flavor. I liked the balance between the sweet, roasted malts and the slightly hoppy finish.

Deep brown coloured body with a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee, figs and a bit of spice - pretty nice! Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with some caramel, toffee and a bit of hops showing in. Aftertaste has a bit of sugar, some nuts and a ton of caramalised malt. Overall, a good nice beer - without a strong aftertaste or showing much bitterness at all! Definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased at a small convienience store in Praha, Czech Republic today, on 13-March-2008.

Dark brown color. Medium sized fluffy beige head. Moderate aroma with bitter chocolate, toffee and notes of citrusy hops. Light roasted coffee, caramel malt flavors with gentle floral hops in the background. Moderate dry, roasted coffee finale. Light bodied, discreet carbonation, easy, smooth texture.
