Commercial Description:
Loyal followers of choc know of my grandfather Pietro Piegari and his truly American success story. We share today the untold part of my family heritage in our new "Kuehner Weisse", named for my mother’s father who was a german immigrant who traveled through Ellis Island to know success as an innkeeper in Oklahoma. We wanted a beer to honor my mother’s heritage, a real German Hefeweizen, or Weissebier, as the Germans say. Doug Moller, a longitime family friend and brewer was just the person to call for brewing expertise for this special brew. We know from past experience Doug makes a wonderful Weissebier and wanted him to be a part of our attempt to honor the Kuehner family. Here at choc Beer Company we’re big on wheat brews. Choc 1919 is an American wheat. Waving Wheat a Belgium wheat and now this, our true German-style offering. As you enjoy this brew, maybe pause a moment to think on prior generations that traveled hard roads from far away lands to become known as Americans. Many of who would have yearned for something very similar to this beer so far from home. Thanks, Joe

[Bottle] Pours a golden color with only a slight haze. Lots of white head. High carbonation. Aroma of wheat and light yeast. Taste is very muted compared to the nice aroma. Some banana and bubblegum along with an astringent and grainy backbone. Sour notes towards the finish. Light body. This beer reminds me of my biggest beer-related pet peeve - talking about a ’real German hefeweizen’ that is not even close to the style.

Clearly copper pour, nice head and lace. Beery sour aroma. Fizzy and dry without much flavor, reminds me of a cheap champagne. Fruity, winy and very little malt to balance. I should’ve bought a bottle of champagne instead.

Deep hazy amber and copper coloured body with a non-existant tan head and no movement at all in the body - odd! Aroma of pears, apples, wheat, yeast and a bit of toffee - a bit sweet, but not much else coming through. Assertive effervescence with some light acidic tastes of apples and some yeast coming through, but hardly any wheat or malt, no hops and almost no sugars. A VERY mild aftertaste with nothing but bubbles in the mouth and a bit of sour dryness - an odd beer to say the least. Overall, a pretty funky beer - and more of a flemish sour/gueuze blend than any style of wheat. Interesting to try if you like odd beers and if you can find it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Freeman’s Liquor in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 05-May-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 11-May-2009.

650 ml Bottle courtesy of Soonah. pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with a medium white head that soon faded to a fine film. The aroma is fairly unremarkable with wheat, citrus and some nearly funky yeast. The flavor was sweet wheat, rock candy and spices. The finish was short and dry with a lingering sweet and sour effect. The mouthfeel was light and crisp. Overall: The more of this I drank, the more I liked it. A good refreshing summer brew.

Way too much yeast in my opinion. Aroma definitely had a bubblegum character. Flavor was wheat, yeast, bubblegum esters and not much else. Too sweet and out of balance.

Bottle thanks to BMan1113VR. Pours a dark yellow color with a small white foamy ring. Nose is corn and wheat. Taste is grainy cereal. Weak mouthfeel and finish.
