Very intense IPA with a sharp bitterness.
I like:
Intense, nostril-grasping aroma of pure resin and wild citrus, borderline exotic fruits. Long finish. rather complex hop profile, very fruity and undoubtedly American.
I dislike:
I must say I found the DR IPA much more approachable. Alcohol a bit obvious for a Kuhnhenn. Rather sugary malt base with generic caramel taking a lot of room, though producing a heavy body. Seems that what I tasted varied a fair bit from other tasters. hopscotch (5528), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Feb 9, 2009Bottle (2008)… Clear amber ale with an orange tint and a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The earthy, musky aroma is very lupulin-forward. I have no idea what blend of bittering and aromatic hops are used here, but I’m pulling notes of pine, cat pee and damp fallen wood. Full-bodied with stinging carbonation. Pretty well-balanced, although it does lean lightly toward the bitter side. Caramel and toffee sweetness is offset by earthy bitterness. Restrained tartness. Lengthy, bittersweet, mildly acidic finish. CaptainCougar (5526), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of big fresh resiny grapefruity hops and a nice pale malty sweetness. Starts with a juicy piny citrus hop jolt and good sweet malty balance before a crisp bittersweet finish. A nice double IPA. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 3, 2007 Draft sample at MBGF07. Poured a hazy copper color with an average fizzy off-white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Heavy hoppy citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Moderate hoppy citrus flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol bite. Good brew. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Poured a murky amber with a nice sized off-white head. Big sweaty citrus pine hops dominate the aroma. The flavor is a mix of grapefruit and caramel. Hops run through the finish with a light bitterness. Very warming in the chest, especially for the ABV. Medium bodied. Tasty stuff.
