Commercial Description:
An American example of an English style of beer made for the Russian Royals. This ale deep black in color, finally released after being aged for 16 months. Made using large amounts of malt and roasted barley yields the most robust beer we make. Thick coffee like flavor and aroma. This beer is well hopped and finishes bitter. This is a real treat

Bottle ... I threw my back out and wanted to treat myself. This works. Nose throws a mix of coffee/roast and berry/sweet...apparent bitterness. It takes some work to formulate a head. Flavor put me back. Unbelievable! A dark chocolate bitterness hides behind an upfront (and unique) cherry/blackberry, plum...this is not your normal impy stout. Very, very rich, thick, syrup like palate...decadent. The kind of beer that you cannot put down ... you want to keep tasting, then think, then immediately taste again. Such a complex, cool beer. And unfortunately, probably another beer I’ll never see again. A NON CLOYING VERSION OF DARK LORD. Thanks Derek!!!!

A- Pours a deep brownish black hue with little to no head. S- Smells a lot like 5th dementia, deep caramel hues, mixed berries, dark fruity undertones. Quite a bit different from the coffee / roasted malt smell I was expecting. T- Sweet, caramel, fig, raisin, hidden hints of blackberry dominate the first wave of taste. I have never had a beer before that had such a distinct first and second phase to the taste as Kuhnhenns AIS. The first few seconds, as previously described tasted more like a barleywine or an old ale. Once that rounded itself out and you thought the flavor was over a deep wave of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt flooded the tongue. It was just like a good long hop bitterness in a DIPA but instead of bitterness, there was a wave of coffee. This second wave didnt present at all until after the original taste had subsided. M- Low carbonation (it has been in the cellar a couple years) with a high viscosity. D- This is one of the most interesting beers I have ever tasted and certainly one of the best imperial stouts I have had. It’s definitely not your traditional imperial stout. This makes me wish I flew over for the winter solstice so I could have tasted the BA version.

A deep dark stout with no head. A pleasant licorice and dark chocolate aroma, with soy sauce notes. In mouth, a sweetish cherry blossom with warming alcohol, and light licorice. Rich and complex. Tasted at Mondiale 2007.

Dégusté avec french tickler et agaguk le 5 juin 2007. *Drank at le Mondial 07*Opaque black, oily poor with no head. Aromas of dark chocolate, prunes, coffee, soya, black cherries and a hint of vanilla and port. WoW! This is an impy? ... Very creamy, oily mouthfeel.... Good sweetness and somewhat a little salty? Added flavors of molasses, hint of hickory, alcohol, maple syrup, dark chocolate, black cherries and prunes.

I got some soy sauce smell right when I opened it. Somewhat dry finish also. 12oz bottle poured flat black in my plastic cup. Very slow sipper, chocolate, roasted/burnt malt, and coffee were the majority of the flavors pulled from this. Recommended.

12oz, wax dipped, bottle acquired in trade with badbeer (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with a small sized brown head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, coffee, some dark fruits, and I"m getting a little woodiness. Tastes of dark fruits (more than the aromas and included raisins, prunes, and cherries), chocolate, roast, and coffee. Smooth and creamy body with the alcohol well hidden. Kuhnhenn beers can go either way, and this one was pretty darn good. My 5 year old smelled this and said it smelled like pineapples mixed with sweet patatoes...

Bottle, thank you to WeeHeavySD for sharing! Pours a deep, dark brown with a nice tan head. Huge toasted malt aroma, with hints of brandy, molasses, dark fruits, and caramel. Big sweet taste of malt, brandy, a lot of dark fruit with chocolate that builds as it goes. Just a hint of an alcohol bite. Heavy mouthfeel. Lingering sweetness of fruit and chocolate. Absolutely wonderful.

12oz I believe from hoppymeal, and another Derek beer, Derek you rule, so yes, this is cool and special and why the hell not crack this bitch, shared with Dalekliz and my GF Cyn, biggest pour for me in my reidel snifter. Pours black with a ridiculosly beautifal head a trippy fractal ying tang. Killer, nose is huge, big big robust smooth malts and roasty, coffee. Taste is sweet, full of coffee rich bitterness and overall an incredible feat of smoothness. 12.5% is where? this is alc hidden from a brewer that can hide and sometimes doesn’t hide well enough, on the day my birthday token arrives from them, I give back a big cheer for a great beer.
