I"m assuming this was a bourbon barrel, cause this had huge vanilla notes, and i’m a sucker for that. Super thick, and jet black. Pours like old motor oil. Nose is vanilla, fudge, chocolate, coffee, smoke. flavour is big on the vanilla again, and lots of chocolate and smoke. mouthfeel i find it what puts this apart from the others. This beer is super thick, and oil, and creamy, i love it! It’s like a meal. my new favorite stout! GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 3, 2007 Bottle at Mondial de la Bière (Montréal). Pours a black opaque body with a thin brown head. Aroma and taste are both awesome. It is rich, complex, robust. The beer carries various notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, fruits and yeast. No hints of alcohol at all. It ends with a long and warming finish. This is an amazing beer! MartinT (5080), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Jun 2, 2007 My Bottom Line:
An ocean of soy sauce and floating residual sugars frighteningly recalls SA Triple Bock. A viscous and cloying Imperial Stout whose complex flavors of coffee, molasses, vanilla and roastiness just don’t have room to shine.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-This headless monster did sport a dauntingly opaque black dress.
-The mouthfeel is as thick as it gets, and this just doesn’t agree with the saltiness for my palate.
-Alcohol burns in the back, and the overwhelming sugars are on the verge of triggering my gag reflex.
-I am against the grain here, but this overly sweet sumo sipper just doesn’t work for me at all.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Very light aroma with a tinge of chocolate. Black with no head--very oily looking. Medium palate for an impy. Flavors are extremely sweet! Lots of bitter chocolate and brown sugar and definitely alcohol. Tangy aftertaste detracts. I just felt this one was way too sweet for my tastebuds.
