Commercial Description:
An American example of an English style of beer made for the Russian Royals. This ale deep black in color, finally released after being aged for 16 months. Made using large amounts of malt and roasted barley yields the most robust beer we make. Thick coffee like flavor and aroma. This beer is well hopped and finishes bitter. This is a real treat

Draft... This beer rocks! ... Pitch black ale with a creamy, brown head. Decent retention. The aroma and flavor are a medley of blackstrap molasses, dried plums, dark chocolate, espresso beans and black cherries. The heavy, burnt bitterness almost pounds the malt sweetness into submission. Boozy, but not necessarily hot. Full-bodied with a thick, velvety mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lengthy, bittersweet finish. World class stout!

Tap. Pours a black color with small dark brown head that completely settles out. Aroma is not as huge as I expected, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, burnt sugar. Palate is full bodied, bitter, warm finish. Great.

On tap at the pub & growler: Oily black pour with a dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor, chocolate, coffee, some dark frutis, caramel. Bittersweet on the finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth. Pretty good stout.

Growler shared by sliffy! - Thanks Dan! - Pours black as night and quite oil-like with a nice mocha head that fades to a film but leave oily lace along the edge of the snifter. Aromas of big roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is quite rich with dark chocolate and dark fruits. Some good roasted notes too. Finish is lingering chocolate. Good oily palate that is thick yes so smooth and creamy in the mouth. Low carbonation. This is a very nice stout...

Sampled at the Michigan Winter Beer Fest, Lansing. Deep dark opaque brown body, thin tan head. Sweet, caramelized malts with raisin, molasses, hints of plum, and coffee. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Rich, complex aroma and flavor. One of the better beers at the fest. I did not pick up the high ABV, but I think I felt it.
