Pours an amber-beige colored beer with some light cherry-red hues and a foamy, small white head, moderate retention, receding to a light cover and ring. The aroma has American hops right away, light orange and mostly floral notes, with a soft grassy/herbal undertone. Light toasted grains, plenty of medium-dry caramel and fresh yeast collect in the aroma. Almost a sprucey/woodsy sort of feel to it with the dry grains and floral hops. The flavor is hoppy up front as well, only lightly so, and just more herbal/grassy than floral. Round caramel and light nutty malts through the middle followed by a late bitterness and more floral hops, verging on a touch of citrus. The body is medium, with no thinning or wateriness and low carbonation. Texture is a touch lean, with the very dry malts and not as much sweetness to lend as creamy a texture. Strikingly similar, though to Bells 20th. Bret and Eric had never even heard of Bells 20th so it’s funny they produced a malty amber ale with fair hop flavor and aroma at almost the exact same ABV. Not quite as chewy and succulent as Bells, nor as sweetly malted, but this one has a more pronounced, crisper hop flavor and aroma. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2007 On draft at brewery. Nice copper color with thin off white head. The aroma is tart grapefruit and a hint of sweet malt. Nice hop bite of what seems like grapefruit hop type flavor and bitterness. The malts take a back seat behind the tall hop flavor profile. Nice tasty beer for the hop head or aspiring hop head. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma of caramel, some fruits to it, citrus. Flavor, caramel, light fruits, toffee, and a dry finish. Really refreshing, cut through the big beers of the night quite nicely. 64 oz growler
Moderate pour in an English pint
Unknown brewing (recent?), enjoyed 2 days after the growler pour, 04/07
Poured a clear reddish amber with an average somewhat diminishing off white head.
Smelt of moderate caramel, citrus, light dough.
Taste was upfront moderate caramel and citrus hops followed by a moderate to strong bitter toasted malt and garden greens hops on an average finish.
Palate was light to medium bodied, fizzy, slightly oily and lightly astringent.
Overall, a very satisfying amber with a good emphasis on taste, but nothing makes it stand out. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2007 On tap at the pub. Pours thinly to a burnt orange body. Cool hoppy aroma, light and laid back, suggesting wet grass and unripe citrus; hints of sweet caramel and meaty spices. Dry and leafy flavor with plenty of cascade bitterness and slick crystal sweetness; slightly resinous and showing just enough toffee tinted malt to balance it. Medium bodied and quite smooth in the mouth, giving a bit of oily, nutty sweetness at the finish. Certainly not especially memorable, but quite pleasant. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA
