Big thanks to Ibrew2or3 for sharing this treat.

This beer pours a brown body with some red highlights, very still with no head. Nose of malts, candied sugars, dark fruits and some heat from the alcohol. Flavor is sweet, notes of vanilla, bourbon and plums, finishing with a very slight burn. Palate is thin to medium, lightly astringent. Finish is medium lenght and slightly sweet. Nice brew.

Pours out a dark brown color that had some highlights of red throughout it. Aroma was sweet, malty, with nice notes of bourbon. Flavor had hints of vanilla, bourbon, raisins, and malts. WOW. I liked this one. Great brew!

Bright copper pour. Small off-white head, rapid dissipation, speckled minor lacing. The coloration of the body is a most marvelously captivating shade, invoking memories of travels through Egypt; it looks like melted metal you’d find encased in a pharoah’s tomb. Raisins mingle with a full, gentle bourbon and vanilla liqueur composite in a soft, well-rounded nose. This shrouds roasted caramel and just a touch of alcohol. A vinous dark fruit quality speaks volumes about the quantities of malts and sugars employed in the brewing process, of their quality as well. It really seems like the ideal marriage of malt and extracted bourbon and barrel character was reached. Flavor is very sweet, woody and whisky enhanced. Is this what bourbon barrel J.W. Lee’s Harvest Ale might taste like? Ample alcohol provides a strong bitterness that seems as if it’s a strurdy mold for the other flavors to frolic in. Hops are discernible but don’t really make a resounding difference in the whole of the flavor. The finish is delicate and very warming with lingering toasted grains and vanilla. Mouthfeel is light bodied for a beer of this magnitude, medium overall, with high viscosity and very little carbonation fizz. This recipe is scripted well, it gets right to the point.

Bottle sampled on 3/12/07: Pours a transparent copper orange with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet aged caramel malt with a big earthy, toasty butterscotch vanilla character. Body starts with a viscous sticky caramel sweetness with some brown sugar and raisin complexity toward a very warming sweet viscous finish. A nice barleywine, but a little over the top, cloying and alcoholic.

(Bottle, thanks to hopscotch our barley wine daddy) Pours deep hazy red with absolutely no head. Strong, full and complex aroma of bourbon oak, coconut, dark fruits like fig marmalade, dried plums and raisins. Also some lighter fruits like red apples, pears, honey melon and maybe some apricot. Light roasted with hints of chocolate. Malt brings some syrup, bread and caramel. Decent alcohol warmth both in the aroma and in the flavour. Fruits and bourbon oak flavour with vinous notes. Also notes of dried fruits, berries, mostly cherries and chocolate. The malt is very syrupy, caramelly and sweet in the flavour as well but not cloying. Lingering aftertaste of English fruit cake, figs, brown sugar, cotton candy and some hints of bread. Thick, pretty round mouthfeel with sharp alcohol notes and some stickiness. Medium to full body. Yes Eric this beer most certainly rocks…!

bottle-thanks to vyvvy for sharing this one and thanks to hopscotch for sending it his way! pours meaty amber/copper with no head to speak of. WOW, now thats a sweet bourbon bomb if i ever wiffed one. Anybody with Diabetes would die if they drank this one. an onslaught of bourbon and sweet caramel malt with tons of dark fruit. reminds me of that barrel aged trippelbock they made. I dunno-this is too much for me. im glad i only had such a small sample. tons of alcoholic sweetness with carmel and light roast. Big sticky body here with tons of alcohol. good but not something i would ever have again.

This beer is huge. Pours deep brown with no head. Thick and daunting. The taste is huge. Fills your mouth. Tons of caramel and malt, with a big sweet finish. Not a beer I’d drink everyday, but definitely a nice one. Re-rate: so, they brought this to the winterfest. Who would have figured. Incredibly well balanced at this point. Unbelievable rich and smooth. HIdes the alcohol really well. This was much better than the last bottle I tried.
