Commercial Description:
Gold to amber color. Strong earthy honey aroma, medium sweetness, honey dominates over the malt character. Pours a nice head. This mead is made from Michigan Star Thistle honey. Braggot is made from 2/3 honey and 1/3 malt. It required 1 year of aging for this mead to reach maturity. This Braggot will handle age beautifully. We recommend you try a bottle today and an aged one in a few more years. This mead is carbonated naturally in the bottle, so there will be a yeast sediment int he bottom. Recommended serving temperature is 50 F. This example is one of just a few Braggots available in the world.

Was planning on keeping this unopened in my cellar for awhile, but broke down and opened it up. Honey aromas with some hints of alcohol. Very sweet, IMHO, honey overpowering, stays in the mouth too long. My first mead, pleasant and would try more as to compare.

Small suspended particles, gold malted mead. Earthy, sweet (honey), woody aroma. Honey notes blended with soft ale feel . Alcohol . Interesting drink.

Sweet malt nose, golden amber, with a tiny off-white head. Honey, wine gum like flavour, consistency of jello when hot water is introduced. Sweet, carbonated, smooth. A nice treat! Thanks wohlfs.

The final sample of the evening. Quite different from the Kasztelanski Mead we had earlier in the session. This was crisper and dryer, with quite a tart finish. [Toronto Christmas Party ’04]

Wohlfs brought this expensive bottle to share at a recent party. Light gold in color with a nose of honey. This was the most honey-ish of three meads/braggots of the night. More sweet and flavorful, with more body than the other two. Carmelized richness, with loads of alcohol that seemed to be well hidden for the most part. My favorite American mead so far!

Syrupy, hazy gold w/ finger of light beige foam. Sweet dark-ish honey aroma w/ gentle malt background. Soft, lightly syrupy feel. Flavour of dark honey & sweet, pale malts. Finish is semi-dry.

A sparkling mead with geuzelike sourness. My first braggot, it was crisp, carbonated (wohlfs who brought it to Doug Shoemaker explained the carbonation is from the malt) and different. Dry aftertaste. Refreshing and will have again. Surprising the alcohol was so high, ya don’t notice.
