Commercial Description:
Gold to amber color. Strong earthy honey aroma, medium sweetness, honey dominates over the malt character. Pours a nice head. This mead is made from Michigan Star Thistle honey. Braggot is made from 2/3 honey and 1/3 malt. It required 1 year of aging for this mead to reach maturity. This Braggot will handle age beautifully. We recommend you try a bottle today and an aged one in a few more years. This mead is carbonated naturally in the bottle, so there will be a yeast sediment int he bottom. Recommended serving temperature is 50 F. This example is one of just a few Braggots available in the world.

(12oz bottle, thanks ryan) Small beige head atop clear dark amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, strawberry. Taste is moderately sweet, strawberry, berry, light honey, faint seltezer. Alcohol noticeable, particularly in the finish, but not overpowering. Medium body, some stickiness.

On tap at the Kuhnhenn Brew Pub...should this be un-retired? Poured a medium amber color with a small sized head. Aromas of, well guess what, honey with some caramel. Tastes of honey, caramel, and some breadiness. Light alcohol in the finish.

Bottle shared by ryan on 7/26/09: Bright copper amber with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of sweet toffee and a touch of light fruits and a hint of tartness. Starts with some finely dissolved carbonation and light fruits and honey sweetness along with a touch of tartness and warmth toward the finish. Not much honey character, but has some pretty good balance.

Thanks Matt for the chance to taste this: A cloudy honey orange hue with a creamy white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of floral and herb hops, doughy and chesse yeast esters, grain, peach, light honey and vanilla. Taste similar to a Strong Ale with a heavy bittersweet character and an acidic twang. Good yeast notes as well. The mouthfeel is oily, lively and very smooth on the finish. Not as I expected, not overpowering with sweetness or alcohol. This is really more like a beer than most meads, nicely quaffable.

Poured a slightly hazed deep copper color with an off-white head. Toasty honey aroma. Pretty sweet. Honey flavor with a sweet medium body. This was a 12oz bottle as compared to what appears to be a 750ml in the bottle photo. I like sweet but not a fan of honey and this did nothing to help that.

A sparkling mead with geuzelike sourness. My first braggot, it was crisp, carbonated (wohlfs who brought it to Doug Shoemaker explained the carbonation is from the malt) and different. Dry aftertaste. Refreshing and will have again. Surprising the alcohol was so high, ya don’t notice.

Small suspended particles, gold malted mead. Earthy, sweet (honey), woody aroma. Honey notes blended with soft ale feel . Alcohol . Interesting drink.
