Commercial Description:
Gold to amber color. Strong earthy honey aroma, medium sweetness, honey dominates over the malt character. Pours a nice head. This mead is made from Michigan Star Thistle honey. Braggot is made from 2/3 honey and 1/3 malt. It required 1 year of aging for this mead to reach maturity. This Braggot will handle age beautifully. We recommend you try a bottle today and an aged one in a few more years. This mead is carbonated naturally in the bottle, so there will be a yeast sediment int he bottom. Recommended serving temperature is 50 F. This example is one of just a few Braggots available in the world.

Bottle. Tried this right after the Brother Adams Bragget. I found the Kuhnhenn’s product was milder and more subdued in comparison. The honey and alcohol seem to be hidden well with this braggot. Lighter amber color with a slight white head. Definately worth a try but expensive!!!

12oz and not retired, and 13.5% via trade with hoppymeal. Pours reddish brown with a tan head. Nose is quite sweet. Taste is sweet and rich and not anywhere near as boozy as one might expect, gotta say this is a pretty damn fine mead from a brewery that doesn’t really make much mead. Yum.

Matt (thedm) provided this beverage to start another Fort Wayne tasting. Poured a cloudy peach color with plenty of "floaties" and a thin off-white head that left nice lacing. Yeasty, earthy aroma with some sweet honey and fruit notes. The flavor was surprisingly beer-like, very sweet but earthy and strongly bready/yeasty. Actually reminiscent of a golden Belgian ale. Candylike. The ethanol showed up in the aftertaste but was subdued (I can’t believe this is 13% ABV!). This was paired with Apis Jadwiga Mead, and these two meads represent the diversity within the style.

Thanks Matt for the chance to taste this: A cloudy honey orange hue with a creamy white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of floral and herb hops, doughy and chesse yeast esters, grain, peach, light honey and vanilla. Taste similar to a Strong Ale with a heavy bittersweet character and an acidic twang. Good yeast notes as well. The mouthfeel is oily, lively and very smooth on the finish. Not as I expected, not overpowering with sweetness or alcohol. This is really more like a beer than most meads, nicely quaffable.

A mainly honey aroma, but there was some light yeasty smells in there, and also some fruits as well. Brownish in color with a larger than expected off white head. There were also some yeast particles as well. Well the honey was most evident in the taste, but it sort of tasted like a belgian beer with a honey taste thrown in. Very tastey though. Thanks to Matt for sharing this one.

After the Fort Wayne Ale Fest 2004, BigBadBear, Flemdawg, JSquire, Hotstuff, and Silphium came over to my place for a tasting. I paid $30 for this Mead and I was hoping it was good. I wanted to share it with my RateBeer friends and compare it side by side with the Apis Jadwiga Mead. This was our second mead. And oh what a brew it was! We were not disappointed with this one either. It poured a large sized head of foamy white colored fine to medium sized bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body was carbonated with a hazy yeasty brown color that looked more like a beer than a Mead. The aroma was malty and yeasty like a beer. The mouth feel was tingly smooth and did not contain the intense honey finish that most Meads have. In fact, the honey flavor was very mild. The mead was very very good too. Not people appreciated the fact that the honey was not overpowering like in most meads. Very very good. My hat’s off to the fine folks at Kuhnhenn for this rare and interesting Braggot Mead!

Rumored to be from 2005. Thick murky amber pour. Caramel colored head and some drippy lace. Honey and caramel on the nose. Sweet warming honey flavor combined with some citrus zest.

Deep mahogany pour with a frothy, off-white head and good lacing. Aroma smells of clover honey, slight orange zest, faint dark fruit, toasted nuts, and alcohol. Strong honey flavor with notes of pear, apple, caramel, and red grape. The alcohol is well hidden with just a touch of warming after you swallow. Oily, medium-full body with moderate carbonation.
