I’m almost tempted to jack up the appearance, since it looks so metal, like something blood-crazed vikings would drink, or the dudes in Amon Amarth (same thing?). Anyways it’s a dark, gloopy, yeasty looking thing. Strong pungent yeasts dominate the nose. The taste is an odd combination of balsamic and very intense sugars, with a strange dirty bitterness in the finish. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Thanks to Ucusty. Pours a dark murky brown with no head. The nose is earthy, rich, molasses, caramel, very rich, sweet. Cloying. The flavor is molasses, rich, thick, sweet, caramel, waxy bitterness. Not crazy about this one. Palate is very thick and velvety. Two tons of body. durhambeer (1240), Durham, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Bottle generously shared by ucusty. Thick, deep rich pour. Heavy stuff. Brown with slight red tint. Not much head. Dark fruit and malt on the nose, but also a weird balsamic thing going on... like a balsamic reduction actually. All of the flavor but none of the acetic qualities. Also distinctly present on the palate. Also weird celery seed and maybe chicory notes. Methinks this is another case of the Kuhnhenn curse. More infection. This was not so good. GodOfThunder (884), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2009 Special thanks to Hopscotch. This was a good one. Aromas are sweet and malty with dark fruits and chocolate. Flavors continue with more luscious caramel and dark chocolate, and a nice hint of fruit. Very good. miketd (685), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Pour is dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, shoe leather, fruit and musty. Flavor is like an old closet, and not really in a bad way. Musty but interesting. Decent palate and good beer. BlackForestCO (831), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2009 Bottle shared by Crosling, thanks man. Poured a deep, murky brown color with ruby highlights and a thin beige head that faded to a ring. Sweet, malty aroma with hints of chocolate, caramel, light soy, and some dark, ripe berries. Sweet, smooth entry with some strong fruit (ripe berries and apple) with some caramel and chocolate maltiness that transitions into a deep fruitiness including some sweet cherry that finishes lightly dry with some oak. Low carbonation, smooth and full on the palate. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Really nice nose on this beauty, showcasing rich malt notes of chocolate, cookie dough and jammy dark red fruit. Flavor is brilliant. Tremendously malty and rich, loaded with caramel, chocolate, nuts. Finish is lingering as well. Well, wow, yea, Kuhnhenn rocks hard. This reminds me of young (darker vintage) Hardy’s. An absolute beauty and one to put away and forget about. Stunning. smith4498 (951), Miami, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Bottle shared by hopscotch. Pours cloudy dark brown with minimal head. Aromas of raisins, caramel and molasses. Very sweet vanilla and oak flavors with lots of dark fruits. Medium to full body with almost no carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden considering the strentgth. A very nice beer.
