| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2009 [2005 Bottle] from Cletus. Pours a sort of chalky ruby brown with a scant beige head that is difficult to coax out of the beer, but with this amount of age and the style, not terribly surprising. Flavor is nice and rich, with some raisins and caramel, evident alcohol, surprisingly little oxidation, but a little bit of sherry. Flavor is really, really nice. Awesome complexity and very very smooth. Alcohol that was there in the aroma disappears, leaving lots of chalky caramel, raisins and figs, a touch of oxidation, and a hint of hops. I would love to just chill out and sip these all night. Really nice beer. tjthresh (1782), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Pours brown with some nice reddish hues. There’s a ring of dirty white foam around the edge. Bold nose with cherry pits, Werthers candies, Tootsie Rolls, and a bit of chewing tobacco. The flavor is rich with chocolate and chew. If they actually made chewing tobacco that tastes like this, I made pick it up again. Full body with just a bit of carbonation and a sweet finish. Very yummy stuff. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2009 Bottle thanks to hopscotch. Unclear as to what batch this is. Completely black and white label. Very complex beer. Pours really thick with a layer of light brown head that stays decently well and leaves seriously thick coats of lacing on my glass...sheets of it. Murky brown body. Aroma is strong with prunes, raisins, molasses, oak, nuts, cinnamon, rum and fruit cake. Taste is malty and towards the bitter side of things. Rum in the finish. Notes of tobacco, baking chocolate, leather, and licorice. A few orange notes as well. Syrupy and warming with light bubbles. kkearn (1014), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 9, 2009 12oz bottle. I’m unsure of the vintage. Pours murky brown, topped with a thin tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, alcohol, caramel, and dried fruit. Flavor follows suit with
caramel, smoke, chocolate, toffee, spice, and citrus. Sweet finish with some alcohol and toffee. Nice beer, I’m glad I had the opportunity to try it. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2009 2008 bottling. Quite dark amber pour, zero head arises. Some stickiness to the glass. Smells wonderful. Fragrant aroma of brown sugar, malt and some floral hops. Sweet molasses, caramel/toffee up front. Mellows rather quickly into some red fruits, malt and finishes with just a miniscule hop bitterness. Certainly a beer to contemplate. Only a hint of booziness. Just a little bit thin yet. Well done, but a bit dissappointed considering this is the highest rated old ale. We’ll see how the other 5 of these age, I have a feeling it will improve. Still very well worth trying. Parfums intense de malt et de caramel.
Gout sucre, un peu trop, mais quelle saveurs se cachent derriere.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Bottle from brewery, poured a clear ruby along with some darker ruby and brown at the edges, I got hardly any bubbles when poured, a few more tiny bubbles appeared when I swirled the glass, also, it looked viscous in the glass, aromas of caramel, dark brown sugar, molasses and candy sweetness, some plum dark fruit fragrances, faint port, wine and chocolate fragrances, real faint alcohol in the background, lots of candy and dark malt sweetness with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, I get some faint brandy and-or boiled, burnt brandy flavor in the background with some dark fruit,
felt a tinny bit of alcohol on the palate, alcohol is hidden well but I felt the warmth going down my throat and to my tummy, finish is sort of dry with some residual sweetness there after, there is a small alcohol bite and hop bitterness at the finish, mouth feel is pretty full, a good tasty Winter Warmer drink.
