Big under attenuated malt nose as well. Notes of dark fruits, raisins, plums, toasted malts, grains, barnyard. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes a little more bitter than sweet and somewhat alcoholic. Tastes of cherry and fig. Light to medium body, somewhat chewy, with a watery texture. Lively carbonation. Interesting, well-made old ale. mattmc1973 (313), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

Poured a deep garnet-brown color with a moderate beige head that slowly faded to a layer. Aroma consists of some caramel, sweet berry and plum, raisin, brown sugar, and some alcohol. Sweet, smooth entry with caramel, brown sugar, and some dark fruits including plum, raisin, grape, and fig, as well as some sweet berry fruitiness (cherry and raspberry) that transitions into a lightly astringent finish with some light bitterness and a soft undertone of chocolate. Low carbonation, full and smooth on the palate. A good beer, I enjoyed this. Thanks again custy! dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Bottle (07 vintage?), thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small, tan head. Big sweet brandy aroma, with malt and dark fruits. Rich taste, starts with sweet malt and brandy then picks up more burnt, toasted malt flavors, with dark fruits and a bit of alcohol bite. Lingering sharpness. Very nice.
08 bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. More grass and wood in the nose. Taste has more sugar, hops, vanilla and some wonderful orange. Even more awesome than before. TheEpeeist (1494), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Thanks to Kuhnhenn’s for coming to NC! No head! Color is almost brown. It has a very sweet malty nose. Very sweet! Almost too sweet! durhambeer (1240), Durham, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 5, 2008 Couple of samples from World Beer Fest in Durham. Dang, this was a tasty one. Rich, malty, fruity, and even a bit perfumy with its bitter hops. Not sure what year this was, but I suppose it’s at least almost three years old at this point. Brown pour with small foamy head. Figs and cotton candy were the standout tastes. This was great, and very easy drinking given the alcohol (which Kuhnhenn had listed at 13.5% (not 11%). Not sure if that was a discrepancy or just a different batch. Very, very good.
