Commercial Description:
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

Deep brown in color with a very thin head. The nose is quite expressive with scents of toffee, caramel, dark fruits, roasted malt and chocolate. The palate is not quite as dense as I would expect based on the nose. It is well-balanced and comes off feeling light even though it is a heavy beer. While this should age well, I’m not sure how it will change as the flavors already those that I associate with aged beer.

Bottle: Hazy, deep amber coloured, small and stable off-white foamy layer; liqourice and7or molasses in the fruity (dried fruits)-malty nose, slightly alcoholic; full sweet flavour with a light bitterness, full bodied; chocolate-cake with cacao-powder in the sweet-bitter finish. a very tasty, liquid chocolate-cake........

Bottled, thanks to PANTANAP! 2007 Vintage. Near-black color with transparent burgundy around the edges. Modest beige head and lacing with medium carbonation. Beautiful aroma that is smothered in hefty roasted malts, chocolates, toffee, and heavy caramelized candy sugar. The flavor is a cherry-caramel-chocolate bomb that stimulates the nose even further. Really tasty! Multiple layers of complexity throughout the entire taste experience. Ends quite warm with lasting notes of smoke, tannins and a touch of espresso. Thick, chewy and sappy. Just how I like ’em!

12oz Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a one finger tan head that disappears quickly ( no lacing). Aroma is sweet and malty, dark fruits, light hops smell, and candy. Flavor is much of the same sweet and malty with some dark fruits and candy dancing around a light hoppiness. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky with little carbonation. This is a wonderful beer that should again be tried by all those that have a chance.

At toncatcher’s tasting. Pours a clear brown with a small off-white head. Quite sweet with malty aromas of caramel and some bread. Light hoppyness. Also aromas of dark fruits, butterscotch and port. Full bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle courtesy of Kryptic: Poured a cloudy burgundy color ale with a small head with minimal retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry fruit characteristics. Taste is also dominated by sweet malt notes with some dry fruits (plums, figs). Full body with limited filtration and some low carbonation. No alcohol was discernable which is quiet a feta considering the ABV in this beer. Not as complex as I was expecting but very good nonetheless; a great late night sipper for sure.

Rating #1500. On tap at Hop Devil Grill in NYC. Pousr dark hazy bronze with a persistent dense tan head. The aroma has black current, huge creaminess, caramel, toffee, and milk chocolate. The aroma is beautiful and thick. By the big rich flavors you know the alcohol as to be big, but the alcohol itself is not detected at all. The body is thick and velvety with gentle soft carbonation. The flavor starts with toffee and caramel that is light and smooth on the tongue while being thick in the taste. There are also dark fruit notes detected. Some bitterness is on the finish, but still incredibly somooth and silky tasting. This is an excellent beer that must have some age on it to come across this mellow, drinkable and big all at the same time for an 11% beer. Excellent.
