Commercial Description:
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body with a small ring of white bubbles. Smell: Lucious malt aroma with notes of caramel, dark fruits, and vanilla sugar cookies. Not too shabby! Taste: Strong maltiness back by a rich, full flavor of toasted caramel and gooey dark brown sugar. Very light touch of roast. Some vanilla. Layers of stewed fruits. Mild, earthy hop bitterness. Soothingly sweet, warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. A bit chewy. Drinkability: Well! That was quite a lovely old ale. I definitely recommend acquiring a bottle (or three).

Big thanks to Miketd for the hook up. Seductive and inviting nose dripping with caramel candy coated green apple, sweet malts, some oak, warm booze. Tasted fairly similar, very caramel sweet up front, maple syrup, with a backdrop of raisins, plums, apricot, etc. Light carbonation and thinner body than expected - but still lush and mouth coating - soothing in fact. Long warming finish...damn! This stuff is to die for. I can’t even fathom how insane the bourbon aged version would be... Thanks Mike! Really glad I have another to sock away..

Clear beautiful red body with a medium creamy dark tan head. Huge fruit, caramel, raisins, and molassas aroma with a touch of roasty malts. Sweet fruit, raisin, caramel and molassas flavor. Medium body with moderately low carbonation and a smooth syrupy sweet finish.

Tap at Hop Devil. Autumnal tawny-ruby hue. Dark fruit explosion; fresh and fermented prunes, plums, and raisins. Very sweet. Plenty of caramel and mollasess. Hint of vanilla. Lack of overly roasted and/or chocolate malts allows the fruity flavors to shine and bounce off each other. Hops in the mix with bitterness at the end. Strong alcohol finish. Velvety soft mouthfeel. More a barleywine than old ale. Velvety dark rum fruitcake.

On tap at HDG. Dark brown with ruby highlights. A ton of sweet, aged malts in the aroma: molasses, raisins, light hint of earth. Taste is very full bodied, with molasses, raisins and plums, lightly bready yeast. Hop bitterness pokes through in the finish, but with that much malt it was just there to balance it, which it did pretty nicely. I think this was my favorite Kuhnhenn on tap that night.

Very dark ruby color, creamy brown head. American hoppy nose. Very full-bodied and roasted, coffeish beer. Loaded with alcohol (13,5 5). Too extreme of everything for my liking, not a brew to drink in quantities.

The color was was a dark brown/black. The head was thin, off-white, and creamy. The aroma was sweet caramel malt, and aged. The flavor was aged, sweet caramel malt, spicy hops, waxy, and alcohol. The palate was very full-bodied. The finish was spicy hops.

Thanks polomagnifico. Pours a beautiful deep rich brown with a cascading creamy tan head. Wonderful to look at. The aroma is sweet and raisiny, malty, chewy, teasing aroma, The flavor is unbelievably full and overwhelming, good god this is a head rush. Ok, aged mellow port alcohol, rum and raisin, plum, dark fruits, some roasty wood and chocolate, toffee, bubblegum, wonderful waxy grapefruit peel, alcohol. Velvet on the tongue with a wonderful warmth and waxyness. This is one of the most amazing beers I’ve ever had.
